I LOVE Every Pet I've Ever Owned or Cared For. Most people call me the animal whisperer. I have had people tell me that there dogs or pets are mean and to watch out or that they will be scared and hide from me but almost every time, dogs or other pets run up and are instantly wagging their tails and shifting their bodies while leaning against my legs as I stand there, pet them and tell them that they are awesome in that oh so exciting voice that makes any pet happy. I have owned and cared for dogs and cats with issues of separation anxiety (life), diabetes with daily shots 1-2x/day (4.5 years), liver/kidney failure (2yrs+), having to be carried, cancer (2yrs+), ear infections, cysts, tick bites and burrowing, and cuts on paws. I pay very close attention to how an animal is acting and when necessary bring them into veterinary care as soon as possible. I paid so close attention to my Mainecoone cat with diabetes and how she reacted with the insulin doses that I could adjust her doses so that she would stay at a happy medium. At the beginning of the diagnosis at age 6.5, I was told she would only live 3-6 more months because her sugar level was so high. Over 4.5 years with close attention, she became NON-diabetic! The vet couldn't believe his eyes! Only downfall was 6 months after the greatness of the diabetes being gone and her significant weight loss from 26 lbs to 14lbs, she started to have kidney problems. From the X-rays, her kidneys had shrunk from processing the human glargine insulin and two years later passed but she never let her ways down. She was a happy, moth hunting, curled tail around my calf muscle as she walked outside with me without a leash till the day she passed away. I would give anything to have her back. She lived to be almost 13 yrs old. Her blood brother will be 15 this Labor Day. As for owning dogs, My family had 3 golden retrievers and 1 cocker shelty mix. My parents owned a golden retriever when I was born and I lost my 3rd golden around the same time my female cat was diagnosed with diabetes. My last golden had kidney and liver failure from age. I adopted her as a rescue. She was scared, dropped to the ground and piddled, ran from males and females; she was found in a farm field bound in bailer's twine and highly underweight. However the first time I met her, I kneeled, called her over with a happy voice, she let me start to pet her and give her a hug, within minutes I picked her up and held her like a baby. The finder thinks she was about 2 yrs old at this time. She lived her whole life with separation anxiety but I never let her down. She passed at 11.
