Home away from Home- with love

Pet care experience

HI, I'm Jan and I have 30 plus years of ongoing pet experience. Besides owning, training and sitting, I have animal volunteer and products experience. I was a foster for Giant breeds for Big Dogs Huge Paws. My last dog, a male, older senior Aussie mix passed away - he was almost 15 years old. :-). My current dog is a giant breed and very sweet and loves other pets. He is very tolerant and loves kids too! I have a completely fenced in large backyard and also a dog door in my home, so the pups can go in and out as they please. I am home often and walk the dogs almost daily. I live near two dog parks as well as plenty of natural land space - great for walks. I have years of dog experience and at one point had my three dogs, at 80 lbs, 125 lbs and 140lbs in my home. At this point, puppies are too energetic, but love to have adults, (at least semi-trained), friendly dogs. I need them to be house-trained, not destructive, no BARKERS, no cat chasers, not diggers and dogs that don't jump up on the door. I can no longer accept dogs that have been recently rescued. I would like for you to have had them at least 4 months so you are familiar with their habits and behavior. I prefer minimal barkers and non-baying dogs, but if they are prone to bark, please provide a bark collar. If you have a large breed that needs to be kenneled, I am no-longer taking those pups either, space doesn't allow for that situation. My apologies. I had two adults cats before and they lived long lives and have since passed, but now I have a brand new kitten who has adopted me and refuses to leave. It has been so fun to have her and she is sweet and loving and likes to be part of the household. Please do not ask me to take a dog that will chase her or bark at her constantly. I volunteer at Denver Dumb Friends League and have been doing so since 1995- and have volunteered for MaxFund, and Canine Companions for Independence as well. I work the Denver Dog shows with the Plum Creek Kennel Club. I have a mini-ductless air system that keeps the house cool in the summer. I ask visiting pets to bring their food in solid containers please, so I can avoid any critters trying to enjoy it as well since those critters are not invited. :-) I am FEMA CERTIFIED and am now part of the Animal Disaster Recovery Team (CART) through the Denver Dumb Friends League to assist with displaced animals and coordinate animal care during emergency situations. About this sitter: Professional woman, excellent pet lover, and enthusiast. Involved in several animal organizations and volunteer events. I have fostered large breed dogs as well. I enjoy good times with friends and relaxing in my backyard. As such a dog that doesn't jump up on people or counters and is not considered a 'barker' is preferred to keep peace in my home and neighborhood. Why I love dog sitting I have owned and cared for my own dog since I was 15. I helped neighbors and relatives with their dogs since about 8. I walked my dog(s) every day (just about) since I was 15, and have owned a dog since, until 2015. I just adopted a dog again in August 2019. Diesel. At one point I have also owned three large dogs and two cats of my own in my home. The last of those three passed away at almost 15 years of age. I have/still volunteered with several animal organizations, I've been a professional pet sitter/walker and have experience with special needs dogs and their care. I was a customer service specialist at PetSmart for three years helping customers to choose food and pet products specifically for their dogs. I have had a lifetime of history with pets, including guinea pigs, rabbits and cats too. Meet my pets My former Dog Jackson passed away 3/2015 and my Cat- Nikita, 19 years old, passed away 10/2015. I now own Chance kitty, who is sassy and playful. I also have Diesel who loves to guard the house and all the occupants, including visiting pups. About my yard Large backyard fenced in completely. Two dog houses too as well as a covered deck with dog beds. Lots of shade. My experience administering medication Absolutely. I had many treatments to attend to for a former dog I owned. He had approximately 6 surgeries. I have handled chemo treatments for both a dog and cat I owned as well as IV fluids and administering IV's.

Jan was absolutely amazing. She was prompt with communication, sent daily recaps, photos throughout the day, and took Margo on an adventure every single day she was there. You can tell she loves your pup like her own and gives all the love she can. We will be booking with Jan again! Thanks again for giving us piece of mind so we could enjoy our vacation.

Information Jan D. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know size, energy level, trained behaviors, prey drive and alpha status, and commands that you specifically use. That is the basics to understand the behavior. Then the fun stuff, goofy fun-loving antics, or special things that help them feel secure and loved while the pet parents are away. Do they like belly rubs, hide-n-seek, certain toys...or like me to sing??? I guarantee they love my singing,... :-) It is very good to know the schedules and commands you use when addressing your pet so I can keep their routine familiar. One thing I decided I need to add to my profile is to ask the pet owners please ensure their dog's nails are trimmed prior to a stay or of an adequate short length. I have a nice deck that has been re-done and if the nails are too long it can gouge the wood. I like to run around and play with the dogs in the backyard and it would be beneficial to make sure nails are trimmed so my property stays protected and we all can have some fun.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks Around the neighborhood, or down the street to a park and over to a large land space, natural fields with lots of trails for dog walking. I am close to a park as well as two dog parks should your dog like dog parks. I like to walk and enjoy pets as they enjoy their world. Your dog's sleeping arrangement On various dog beds, in any room. Time I'll spend with your dog I will often only serve one client at a time (unless it is a holiday and higher needs, and the clients are fine with one addition- but never more than two clients), so your dog(s) will have lots of individual attention. I will spend lots of time with your dog each day before and after work at this point until my current assignment ends. However, your pets will receive walks and plenty of extra time for love. I also have a doggie door for them to have access to the fenced in and locked yard if you are okay with using this feature of my home. I take my sitting seriously and love all animals, so I will make their visit like a stay in their own home, with lots of love and attention. I also keep all food dishes washed and water bowls washed and clean... I want them happy and healthy in my care. I always send pics and stories of what we do..so you will always be informed of what has been going on while you are away.
