Doggy Retreat big yard & Dog park

Pet care experience

Your dog will LOVE his/her stay here! We are an active family who love playing sports, going on hiking & nature trips with your dogs. They have their own vacation retreat when they stay here! And why not! They generously give so much happiness to our home and family, we feel they deserve all the happiness in return! I have grown up all my life caring for dogs- cocker spaniels, Standard poodles, german shepherds, akitas, and Chihuahuas. Dogs are amazing friends who make life fun! I wanted to suit our family home to make sure that Kia, our angel doggy, and her friends can have the same joy they give us so freely! I am home with her about all day playing and practicing our training. We'd love for your furry friend to join us! Our home has many separate areas for dogs to play (inside and out) lots of toys, lots of love, lots of supervision, and a built-in super silly playmate named Kia! We've converted the garage into a cute, pet friendly playroom/lounge where we can play the dogs in bad weather and a large fenced backyard and courtyard for fun in the sun! We also enjoy daily walks across the street in beautiful wooded walking trail in Orme Park, and visiting our doggy bakery, farmers market and Piedmont Park. Your pal should join the adventure! Full time stay at home dog mom. Full time stay at home dog mom. Full time stay at home dog mom. Full time stay at home dog mom. Full time stay at home dog mom. Big fenced in yard. 3 large enclosed outdoor spaces 2 enclosed indoor doogy play and chill rooms. Multiple Cameras but I rarely use as I love dogs and they are typically following me everywhere I go! Crates, dedicated first aid kits, and natural citronella doggy correction spray also ready on stand by if needed.

I'm going to try to be honest and straightforward in my review, as this was a very emotional experience for me but I think anyone considering this sitter should know what happened on my visit. The good: Sitter's home is gorgeous and does have plenty of room for dogs to play Sitter was very kind to stand by my car when I accidently locked the keys inside with my pet, and had to run home after the meet and greet (thankfully a 6 minute uber ride each way) to get my keys. This alone made me feel I should go with her and book the stay, even though I was anxious. The cons: Did not alert me to an emergency situation that came up with my dog, instead crated my dog the rest of the day and night and then purchased a muzzle (my dog has no muzzle training nor was this mentioned to me as a possible outcome when I let her know that my dog had not been at a strangers home before and I asked what she would do if the dogs did not get along) Uses negative reinforcement on her own dog to curb barking (not sure if it was water or something else) Sitter's dog escaped the house and was across the street on the two different occasions I was at her home (the meet and greet and when I picked up my dog) Sitter did not notice when the dogs came outside when I arrived with my dog, which made me wonder if the dogs were fully supervised (she accepts more than one border at a time so it was her dog as well as a boarder) Sitter's dog may be leash reactive to other dogs, as observed during our meet and greet at the park One of my pet's comfort items was missing at pickup and not mentioned Sitter was 10 minutes late to meet and greet with no notice The situation: I scheduled my dog Cookie to board with Jamera for Friday-Monday. After the meet and greet, where as mentioned above I did witness her dog lung at another dog while on leash (which she said was just because her dog wanted to play, I was doubtful but tried not to judge as dogs that are reactive on leash can still play fine off leash) we went back to her home. Our dogs played together off leash and seemed to do fine around each other. I told her I originally wanted to drop Cookie off Friday morning, while I would still be home, so in case Cookie did not do well I could cancel my plans and come get her. She asked me what was my anxiety and worse fear specifically I told her that although Cookie has stayed with my neighbor and her dog, and also at my friends house with her dog, she had had a negative experience three months prior where a dog had humped her at day care and she went after him. I told her that I had never seen my dog go after another dog, and we do the dog park every week, but since I was not there for that experience I could not be sure what the trigger was, nor be certain if it would happen again. I wanted to be honest with her that I was not sure how my dog would be with a stranger since we had not done it before. I had not taken Cookie back to daycare, nor had we had any other issues playing with dogs since. I asked Jamera what she would do if the dogs did not get along, and she told me that after an experience she had had with a dog she did not vet long enough, she bought a crate for emergencies if a dog needed to cool down, but told me she had never had to use it. I said that made perfect sense, Cookie was crate trained and that is pretty standard for dogs that get overstimulated anyway. I even offered to bring Cookie's crate, though she has not used it in about 5 months and now has free roam of my home. She said it would be fine and I didn't need to do that, and I started to feel that maybe all my anxiety was just me being an anxious pet mom leaving her dog with someone new for the first time. She told me since she charged on a rolling 24 hours, I would have to pay an entire extra day to drop Cookie in the AM while I worked, so I decided to drop her in the afternoon after all and trust her since Jamera did not seem concerned about Cookie at all. She was the professional in this situation so I decided to trust her. Then as mentioned, I dropped my keys in the back of my hatchback with my dog in it, which locked the keys in the car. As I was panicking, I noticed Jamera's dog in the park across the street by herself. I went to go get her dog and make sure she got home, when Jamera appeared looking for her, apparently it was a common occurrence. I told Jamera about my dog in my car and she stayed watch while my uber took me home for my spare key. Thankfully this round trip was maybe 15 minutes and everyone was fine. I am thankful she was able to do this for me. When I arrived to drop Cookie on Friday, I messaged on the app to let her know we were on our way to arrive at 5:30 as planned. I arrived and went to the same spot in the backyard as we went for the meet and greet, and her dog and the other boarder came out first. It was around 3 or 4 minutes before Jamera came out, saying that normally the dogs would have barked but it made me wonder if the dogs had not been in the same room as her. I dropped Cookie and left for my trip. Saturday morning I got a few pictures and a cute video of Cookie in the backyard, she said that Cookie was keeping the other dogs running, which sounded like her. She loves the chase game. I didn't get any other updates for the rest of my trip. Monday I arrive at 5:30, and found Jamera sitting in the backyard apparently waiting for me. She had a large hat sitting on her lap, covering her knee. She said that having Cookie had been "a rollercoaster." I was stunned, and asked her what she meant, as I had only gotten the update of how much fun Cookie was having on Saturday. She then told me that there had been "an incident" on Friday evening. She said she had been doing a training session with all three dogs (which I see now she mentions on her profile, but honestly if she had mentioned this in person I would have opted out) when Cookie went after the bigger black lab when he was either offered a treat or tried to get attention from Jamera. Jamera got in the middle of them and Cookie got her in the knee. She then took the hat off her lap to reveal the bandage around her knee, which in and of itself felt strange and manipulative. I was shocked. Immediately I asked her why she wouldn't have told me this. She said that she had tried to call but I was "in the air" and then figured she didn't want to worry me. Instead, she crated my dog who then screamed and cried the rest of the day and night, and in her own words "didn't sleep at all." Jamera even said that she knew Cookie had not tried to bite her, but later says she muzzled Cookie for the safety of her teenage son as well. Again: I was never notified of any of this until I picked up my dog. I get that situations come up and you have to make a choice. But I specifically asked her to TELL me if something happened. I later realized in my car, there was no way she even tried to contact me. Even phones on airplane mode will show a missed call. I also had an emergency contact that could have picked her up. Instead, for the next two days she muzzled my dog who has NO experience with muzzle training. Muzzles are not bad in and off themselves, but like crates, they need to be introduced with positive experiences to make a dog feel safe. I can not even imagine what Cookie was like when she first put it on her- but later after I was home with Cookie Jamera sent the most stomach turning video I have ever seen. My dog is laying on her lap, clearly beyond anxious, panting her head off with the muzzle on. Jamera pets cookie and says "get rid of the behavior, don't get rid of the dog." ?!?! I would NEVER consider getting rid of my dog. This on top of her telling me a story at pickup of her brother in law who had a dog "like Cookie but crazier than her" that ended up getting hit in traffic and dying. I was already crying by this point and I just don't know what she was thinking even telling me that. My brain was so scattered with all of this and I had to wait to calm down to even write this review. After she finished telling me about it all, she asked "if I wanted to help her" she would send me her cashapp/venmo to pay the $50 for the tetanus shot. It all wasn't feeling right to me as I got in my car, and later when I was home she sent the photos and videos of Cookie with the muzzle on, and also a video of Cookie playing with her dog (in this video Jamera sprays her dog with something not in a water bottle to deter her from barking, which makes me feel like I should have asked more questions about Jamera's view on positive reinforcement). On top of that, the photo from her urgent care visit was marked for Monday, when she told me all of this happened Friday. It just feels off to me. I wasn't there so I'll never know what did or didn't happen. I'm taking my dog to a professional to have her professionally evaluated. But I can not understand how someone can choose to say nothing to me about it until I pick her up, when Cookie could have been removed from the situation- or even just put in another room without the other dogs! Now we've gone backwards in our training as my dog is showing way more signs of anxiety. The second we got home she passed out on the floor and started licking herself for hours.

Jamera was great and took excellent care of my pup. She made sure she got back to me in a timely manner, and also kept me updated on the status of his stay with pictures. I know he very much enjoyed her attention and care, and I do as well!! Thank you so much for being awesome!

A typical day

At our home, we love to play train and run with the dogs- After all, its their own vacation too! We wake up at 7 am for a sunrise romp and run around the backyard, get some breakfast, and say good morning to our friends or typically following Ms. J around the garden as she gets her coffee and cleans up the environment to make it safe and fun for us. After some down time, we play in the courtyard where a doggy play area was built. We get free time to play for treats and toys and time to get to know our playmates in a well supervised environment. Later in the afternoon we practice our manners and listening skills in the pup playroom. After we have a nice dinner together, we get to take those who are ready on an outing. -on leash hikes through nature -long walks through piedmont park - a visit to one of Atlanta's awesome dog parks - visiting local dog friendly shops & bakeries Heading home we enjoy a relaxed grooming and downtime in the nighty night room and are each tucked in for bedtime listening to therapeutic doggy lullaby music. A nice full day! On the weekend, we often take our big adventure! that is to a pet friendly farm, hiking in a nature preserve, a day by the lake, etc. Just ask me where we are going this weekend!
