The one petting the dog at parties

Pet care experience

My pet care experience started back when I was roughly 12 years old. We did not have dogs in my house until I was a bit older, with the exceptions of some family friends. One particular family friend had a great, big, beautiful black lab named Fowler. He really kick-started my zeal for pet loving. They were over almost daily and Fowler began to feel like my dog. He always played with me, laid with me, and even slept on top of my feet every night. It's one of my most memorable experiences in my life - something about the nostalgia and how sweet it was has always brought back bittersweet memories. Fowler was already pretty old when he came into my life, so it wasn't much later that I had to take care of him in his old age. As a hyper kid, I had to learn to adjust to Fowler's age. This really helped me later on in life, where I feel more comfortable caring for and being around dogs of any age. I have been close to many dogs in my life, and even before having some of our own in my family, I felt capable of gauging and responding the appropriate way to many different types of dogs. A while later, after Fowler passed, my family got a few dogs. I have helped and spearheaded the majority of their care throughout the years, being that I was always so eager to do it. I would wake up early for feeding and walking, I have helped train a handful of dogs - small to large, young to old. I have given shots orally for dogs, but feel confident in performing dog CPR, though I do not have a certification for the latter. No matter the dog, I am always so so eager to meet, walk, and take care of them(this is why going to the BeltLine is so hard for me, so many dogs I want to pet). If there is anything missing in my profile, please reach out to me! I am always looking for ways to improve my puppy-loving and care-taking.

Very pleased with Jake and how he took care of my babies and house. They loved him during the meet and greet and the rest is history. LOL. Will for sure be checking Jake’s schedule next time I need a sitter.

Jake was awesome. He watched our girl for 5 nights and everything about the experience from the meet greet to the end of our trip was fantastic. Riri (our dog) was very well taken care of, as was our house! Can’t recommend him enough!

I unfortunately don’t live in a place that allows pets, so boarding is not an option. I have done a lot of pet/house sitting in the past, and my policy is to leave it better than I found it. I clean while I’m there and hope to make it look like I wasn’t even there in the first place. For the pups, I aim to adjust my schedule as best I can to meet the schedule the pups are already on, since routine is so important!

Information Jake W. would like to know about your pet

I love so many types of dogs. Some of my favorites are Blue Heelers, Labs, Pointer Griffon, etc. But ultimately I have no breed preferences. Small-big, young-old, and everything in between is just right :) I feel most comfortable staying on(or close to) the same routine that a dog is already on, if possible. Having that information on hand is very helpful(ie- needs food/medicine by a certain time, a certain number of walks/miles daily or at specific time, etc.) Other than that, any additional insight into how a dog lives and behaves/should behave is good to know(ie- no getting on the couch, etc.)

A typical day

I try to be a pretty athletic/active person. One of my favorite pastimes is going on hikes. If driving is not an issue, then I will likely take the dog(s) to one of my favorite hiking trails. Depending on their activity level, I may take them on a run, or a longer hike. However, if your dog is not very social, I can also adjust, and bring them to quieter, peaceful areas. I think I am adaptable to any kind of dog, whether it be lethargic or frequent zoomies. I will never pass up the opportunity to zoom with them and play around in the house/apt, assuming there is permission and space for it. If your dog likes short-ish walks and just laying down, then I am comfortable adjusting to that! Outside of what is communicated to me, I will always try to double check before taking the dog(s) anywhere. I have also cared for various rescue dogs and know that a lot of them carry trauma with them. That said, I feel very comfortable working with dogs that have some contingencies around certain scenarios. I only want what makes the dog feel the safest and most comfortable ?
