Pet care experience
Hi! My name is Dessarae, but everyone calls me Des. I know my profile says Jaime, but I go by my middle name. I've been dog sitting for about 7 years, and I currently care for 10 different peoples' pets. Some of them just have 1 dog, and some of them have 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a turtle. One lady I dog sit for has 5 small dogs. I actually cat sit for one family that has 3 cats, too. I know this is more of a dog-sitting service, but I love all the kitties and fish and turtles and hamsters, etc. as well. I used to care for a families elderly, diabetic dog, Fran (he's passed away). He got a shot in his leg every day, and it really wasn't a big deal. The lady who has 5 small dogs has 3 Cocker Spaniels, and one of them gets medication with her food and needs her ears cleaned and medicated. Whatever it is your dog needs, so long as it isn't too weird, I'm happy to do it. I have a "regular" job with University of Florida Performing Arts. I do artist services. While I do have a job, my hours are very irregular and based on the needs of the artists. I've always been able to accommodate everyone who needs pet care at the times they need it. The busiest times for pet care are usually the slowest times at my job. Because UF is a public school, my work is either closed or very slow during holidays.

I don't have a breed preference at all. It just sorta happened that I mainly watch small to medium size dogs. I have watched large dogs before, and I still have a few I currently watch- a Golden Retriever, a Pit Bull, and a big guy who's some sort of Mastiff mix. I'd like to know any special needs, medication, food prep and schedule, walk or outside-time schedules and preferences, favorite toys/play-time things, if they go in a crate when I leave, treat allotments, if they're allowed to sleep with me at night or if they have a bed or special area they go to. I basically want to know what I need to know so your dog is happy and feels safe and comfortable (and you do too).
A typical day
I like to know what the owners do with their pets, and then I try to keep things familiar to what the pets and used to and follow their schedules as best as I can. If I know it's ok with the owners, I will take the doggies on car rides. I currently watch 2 small dogs that LOVE car rides. If it's ok, I'll take a small dog with me to do all my errands- sometimes I even bring them to work with me. I've also taken a few dogs out to my grandma's house in Melrose. My granny is 89, and she loves it. If your dog likes to play ball, I will play ball. If your dog is more of a cuddle bug, we can watch movies and cuddle. If your dog goes to the dog park, we can go to the dog park. It's more what the dog owners are comfortable with and what the dog is used to.
