Love the dog in front of you

Pet care experience

After volunteering throughout high school at my local shelter, I finally got my foot in the animal industry beginning 2014! It started with dog sitting, as a way to enjoy dogs without the commitment of owning. But it quickly turned into something I cherished. I became a top sitter in the county at the time, and left my job as a hair stylist to pursue this full time. I trialed a lot of things such as grooming, vet assistant, and behavior analysts for a local shelter. I took a few years off during my pregnancies and in that time instead began my education to become a dog trainer. I am now a full time professional working dog trainer and love what I do. So why not make some room and allow for some pet boards so you can rest easy knowing your dog is in a safe, structured, and experienced environment?

When I pull out our pup’s special boarding bed, he knows he’s off to Jae’s house for his vacation and sits in it, waiting to go. We’ve been boarding and daycare-ing with Jae for almost 2 years now and it’s always been a good experience where Haru runs to see her, doesn’t look back, and then when we pick him up, he seems sad to leave. At home he has a nice big drink, some snacks and a big sleep. I know he’s been playing and burning energy at Jae’s. On two occasions we had to leave him with a different Rover sitter closer to home, and a nearby pet resort, due to last minute emergencies, and his reaction was very different - he obviously didn’t enjoy his time at those places, was panting and was in a hurry to leave. One place sent me a photo of Haru with other pups in the background and he looked like he was panting, with his head and tail down, as if he was nervous with all the other dogs around. Another, basically admitted to sleeping all day, didn’t feed him or take him out to pee, and instead decided to wrap a diaper on him - which he absolutely hated. This made me realize that being a ‘dog loving’ dog sitter doesn’t necessarily mean much and I’d much rather an experienced dog trainer/sitter like Jae who just gets dogs/dog psychology. We now live farther away from Jae, but the drive is worth the peace of mind that Haru’s staying with a family who makes him feel like he’s on vacay every day.

My sisters and I booked with Jae last year and had a great experience. If you scroll down, you can see our positive reviews. We decided to rebook with her this year. During the booking process, we noticed a lack of communication. Trip was planned for Aug 16-20 and Rover booking accepted on May 26. I reached out to Jae on July 28 to ask if I can drop off my dog the morning of Aug 16 because I initially set the drop off time to 3pm-4pm. Jae was not responding to any of my messages or calls. It could’ve been a simple “Yes I can take them” or “No I wont be available until 3pm”. Finally received a response on Aug 11 letting us know she accepted early drop offs. Delayed communication should have been the red flag for me, but we continued with our booking based off our wonderful experience with her last August (2022). Dogs were boarded for 4 nights. On the day of pickup, we didnt hear our dogs when we knocked on the door. We thought that was a little odd since both of our dogs are sensitive to sound and tend to bark hysterically at the smallest peep. Issue#1: My dog had the nastiest odor & I noticed some type of secretion between his legs and tail area. My bf and I gave him 2 baths in hopes that it would clear up the skin issue, but at this point he needs medical attention. Had to take my dog to the ER because of the skin issue. He’s been very lethargic since he returned home. The vet said his skin inflamed because he must of been left in a hot area for a long time. Hot environment and him licking between his legs caused a bacterial infection, leaving the skin to secrete the slimy substance and odor. I can assure you that smell was so bad & she did not mention anything about it while I was away or on day the of pick up. My dog’s skin was perfectly fine before I dropped him off aside from an ear infection. However, ear medication was packed with my dog’s belongings and Jae was made aware that ear drops need to be administered once a day in the morning. Matter of fact, when I picked him up, she told me she did not give him his ear medicine and it was a little after 12pm when I arrived. I can’t trust that she gave him his ear drops during his stay. Issue#2: when we returned home with both dogs, they drank water like never before. I promise you they drank about 6-7 bowls of water which makes me think they were not given water for a long period of time. They were even drinking water that spilled out of their bowl and onto the floor and crying for more. Issue #3, my 6 yr old German Shepherd urinated in the house which has not happened since he was a puppy. He has boarded plenty of times before and has never had an accident like that. It was definitely out of the ordinary for him. Issue #4, our dogs ate like they had not eaten. Granted, Jae did inform me that on day 1 my GS didnt eat much which was understandable, but day 2 and forward she said they were eating well with no issues. Idk, but it seemed like they didnt eat during their stay based on their mannerisms leading up to dinner. They were scouring the house for food and trying to knock over the trash bin. It’s one of those things where if you know your dog, you just know. We packed so many snacks between the two of our dogs and none of them were returned to us. Not that we care if she kept them or not, but for our dogs to return home hungry as if they had not eaten is extremely upsetting. I’m livid because it seems like our dogs’ safety was compromised and we werent given any proper updates. We tipped Jae in cash and didnt bother to question her because we trusted her services. It was when we arrived home, we properly assessed them. Their demeanors and physical appearance revealed the condition in which they were returned to us as. We don’t know what really happened during their stay, but I can’t imagine it being pleasant. I will no longer book with Jae.

Information Jae N. would like to know about your pet

I do require that all first time boarders submit specifically parvo (found in DHPP combo) and bordetella vaccines. Titer tests for immunity also accepted for those that practice on the cautious side! This can be brought during drop off or via photo! I take the health of the group and personal dogs very seriously. If your dog has high behavioral or medical needs, I do require honesty. This way I can be fully prepared for arrival and can give your dog a true vacation! A meet and greet in our home is highly recommended not just for high need, but all dogs.

A typical day

Our typical day is tailored to the group of dogs I have from athletes to seniors that have seen it all. Sometimes we are going on long walks twice a day and spending most of our time outside. Other times I’ve got a living room of dog beds and a whole lot of movies going. Either way the day isn’t done until everyone is safely tired and happy!

Availability

I work through my home full time, and during the brief moments I have to step away, there is always an experienced adult home keeping your dog company. Because of my knowledge I am comfortable watching dogs that even may have high behavioral needs. I book dogs together based off temperament to ensure all the dogs get a positive experience rather than having too much variance at a time increasing risk of fights or anxiety. Sometimes I only have one additional dog. Sometimes I have four additional! It all just depends on what I feel is safe and comfortable for the group!
