Hi there! My name is Jake and I am a research scientist at UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. I am looking forward to meeting both you, and your pets! Due to my background in the veterinary field, I am comfortable and capable of administering a variety of medications to your pets, as well as providing them with the love and care that they deserve. I am very conscientious about your pets’ safety, as well as mine. Because of this, I cannot accept any at home stays for cats as my cat doesn’t like to be around other cats. Dogs, however, she loves being around and is used to being around dogs of all sizes. In your own home, I am very careful to ensure that your pets are comfortable around me, as I am a tall man. For me, this means having a very calm and quiet demeanor to ensure maximum comfort for your pets.

If there are any special concerns you have about your pet, please feel free to let me know! Some of these concerns can be things like if they are afraid of men, food/cage/toy aggressive, or just generally nervous. Pets that have these concerns often need a much different approach than others.
A typical day
For high energy dogs, I love going to the dog park or just for a long walk around one of the many parks located in Athens. For the more low-energy couch potatoes, I am just as happy hanging out on the couch with them to watch a movie and snuggle for a bit. For cats, playtime can be tricky as they don’t always want to participate, but I’ve found that breaking out a fun toy (aka a laser or a even just a string) can make even the most nervous cat into a kitten again.

Availability
Because of my full-time position, I am usually awake early in the mornings. This would fit in well with many animals’ schedules in order to get them fed, walked and cared for before I leave for the day for work. My fast-paced job doesn’t really allow me to leave during the day, but exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. I am almost always back home by 4:30-5:00 ready to cuddle my own cat at the end of the day, and your pets will be included in this.
