I've had many years of experience caring for a wide range of animals, from hamsters to walruses! I have always loved animals and as a child my range of pets included an aquarium of fish, a hamster, a parakeet, a cat, and a dog. Fortunately not all at the same time! In my twenties I volunteered at the Oakland Zoo and the Marine Mammal Center where I gained hands on experience caring for wild animals. While volunteering I worked for a professional pet sitting company. All of that experience led me to a job at Marine World (now Six Flags Animal Kingdom in Vallejo). There I started out caring for kangaroos, wallabies, wallaroos and an emu and then ended with walruses who are a lot like giant, blubbery dogs! I stepped away from that to focus on my family which includes 2 kids (now college students), a dog, and 2 cats. During that time we were Guide Dog puppy raisers. That entailed caring for and providing basic training and socialization to a puppy for their first year and half of life. Our last puppy is now a working Guide Dog in Texas. I live in the East Bay (Albany) but am looking forward to housesitting in Sonoma County. I love the area and my husband and I are considering a move there. He works from home so can care for our pets which frees me up to care for yours. He also may be able to join me if our son is available to care for our pets.
