* Exercise, Enrichment & Fun! *

Pet care experience

I have loved and lived with animals of all types since I was a child, and grew up spending my summers on a family farm in Alabama. I've worked in both the veterinary and grooming industries off and on since 2004, handling small animals, cats, and small to giant breeds of dogs. I have been fortunate to share my home with a variety of pets over the years, from rabbits, gerbils, guinea pigs, ferrets, leopard geckos, and turtles, to cats and dogs. Together with my best friend, we co-owner a large pack of working dogs and special-needs rescues on our homestead, most of which are either Siberian Huskies or German Shepherds. We also have a cat, 2 leopard geckos, and an aquatic turtle! I believe that properly-enriched dogs are happy, healthy, and well-behaved dogs! That means providing a level of exercise and mental enrichment that will be appropriate for your dog's age, breed, and specific needs. My visits and walks aren't just basic tasks to be completed by a certain time. Each dog is unique, and I view each visit or walk as an opportunity to explore, exercise, enrich, and have fun! When you book house-sitting, drop-in visits, or walks with me, your dog will get to enjoy exploring, learning new concepts, and playing fun new games in safe, pre-determined environments. My goal is to provide you and your family with a happily tired pup that looks forward to every visit or walk! With 15 years of hands-on experience, I'm available full-time for your dog's companionship, exercise, and enrichment needs.

Communication leading up to the care of our animals went well with Ina and she was always prompt to respond. However, we felt there was some definite miscommunications and misaligned expectations. We confirmed overnight pet care and had let Ina know it was OK to take our dogs with on some of her errands but did not expect them to be gone from our home more than they were there (we have security cameras and a GPS tracker on our dog that alert us to all coming and goings in our home.) Some nights Ina arrived to our home at midnight or 1am with them and then left at 4:30am. If I knew how frequently our dogs would be on the road or at her home, I would have insisted on a home visit, as I had done with all our other pet sitting options that would have our dogs in their homes. Additionally, on one day our cameras indicated no one came to our home as had been promised and my friend stopped by to check in on our cats. They had absolutely no access to water and my friend ended up taking over the care of all of our animals for the final 5 days of our trip. In the future, I would insist on a set schedule and time-frame for the care of my animals, as we wanted to utilize in-home pet-care to maintain their general routine which we felt did not happen.

Ina was a wonderful professional assistant for our very ill cat, feeding her through a feeding tube, administering medicine and water through the feeding tube and suggesting additional ways to make our Bella more comfortable and even going out of her way bringing some natural products to try to encourage Bella to eat on her own. She always spent extra time and was very communicative at all times. I cannot say enough about Ina and how much she cares and we will hire her for any assistance we need with our animals in the future.

Ina was a dream to work with. She met our dogs prior to the pet sitting stay, and knew exactly what to do to make them feel at ease with her. While she was with them, they went for a walk and spent a rainy day on the couch — their favorite thing! Ina does a great job communicating and sending photos and videos. I highly recommend her even though I secretly don’t want to share her!

Information Ina S. would like to know about your pet

Your dog's comfort, health, and safety are top priorities while they're in my care. I want both you and your pup(s) to be happy with the service received. If your dog has special needs, such as allergies or other sensitivities, medication or supplement requirements, special dietary needs, mobility issues, or mobility restrictions while healing (such as exercise restriction after a surgical procedure), let's discuss these needs before your visits or walks are scheduled. This will ensure that your dogs always receive the same quality of care as they would if you were here at home with them! Is your dog reactive toward strangers, other dogs, or small animals? That's no problem. I have worked alongside many reactive dogs and their families over the past 14 years. Let's discuss how you'd like your pup to be handled and to receive care in order to keep visits and walks as relaxed and stress-free as possible. I'll follow your lead, and offer any help needed along the way.

A typical day

I love the outdoors and love exploring with curious and fun-loving dogs. I realize, however, that every dog is different, will behave differently in various environments, and will have different needs. Depending on your preferences, your dog can enjoy walks in a variety of settings, from simple walks around your neighborhood, to quick and fun trips to Piedmont Park, to exploring a few local trails such as the Morningside Nature Preserve, the Silver Comet trail, the Beltline trail, the Sweetwater Creek trail, and the West Palisades Trail at Paces Mill! Is your dog or puppy currently enrolled in a training class? If so, I can help keep him or her on track by reviewing training concepts and tasks set by your trainer during our visit! Short, positive training sessions can help provide much-needed mental enrichment to tire your pup out in a safe and healthy way, as well as keep him or her on track with mastering the skills learned in training class each week. We'll also work on practicing good leash manners. We can also work on other fun and interesting mental exercises, such as impulse control (practicing "wait," "take it," "drop it," and "leave it" at home and in real-world settings) and beginning nose work with "find it" games! For high-energy dogs that love staying active, we'll enjoy games of fetch, tug (with impulse control), and frisbee. Trips to any of the local dog parks are available upon request, but will need to be discussed in detail prior to scheduling to ensure that your pup remains safe, healthy, and happy.
