Please allow me to introduce Mrs Heide Sanders, Heide is the wife of one of my esteemed colleagues. We are both airline pilots and this particular Captain is the one I chose to fly my last flight with. When I realized that I would be returning to the Florida, with a rescue dog, Kiwi, I reached out and asked if he knew anybody in our area. Naturally he recommended his wife Heide. We met once and it was a natural match. Kiwi was a nice fit with her beloved Lupin and Beatrice. Over the following years I got to know the family a bit better. Sometimes we ask ourselves if Kiwi is happier with Heide and her family than with us. For a dog with separation anxiety, he is pretty happy to hear as we tell him we are driving to Heide to see his friends. Heide has two incredible children that are definitely dog people, one of which wants to be a veterinarian. The family consists of the two kids, two cats, two dogs, a bearded dragon and a bunny not to mention the two parents that hold it all together. It used to be difficult to drive away after drop off. But now, Kiwi makes himself at home as I make my exit. I am comfortable with Heide and the family providing a HOME for Kiwi when I am away from home. This is because of the open communication she provides, the loving care and her background as a veterinarian tech. On the administrative side, Heide has always been available when she promised. I get ample notice of planned unavailability. There is generous flexibility to accommodate my ever changing schedule. She is happy to feed Kiwi on our schedule and administer medicine when needed. To wrap up this story I share the current situation. My work had me move across the state just under 2 hours away. I still make the drive across Alligator Alley so that Kiwi can keep his beautiful and happy home with the Sanders family. It is worth the extra time, effort and fuel costs to know that he is in excellent care. I have met all the grandparents and see for myself what made this tight-knit family.
