Pet care experience

WORRY FREE VACAY Don't want your SMALL (25 lbs or less) NON-SHEDDING companion dog to be boarded in a kennel run spending time all alone & worried while you are enjoying a glorious sunny beach vacay? We are the perfect solution: Your dog can go on their own stress free vacay here with us @ Furkid Boarding until you return home! HOW WE CARE FOR YOUR DOG We've been caring for other people's Furkids for over 15 years. Boarding dogs are cared for with the same attention & love we haven given our own. I am home full time & my husband works from home. We have a fully fenced in back yard (rail fence with wire & padlocked gates) and dogs are let outside as often as needed for potty breaks/exercise. We have 3 dedicated doggy toy boxes always within reach with stuffed squeaky or crackle toys, Nylabones for chewing needs, bouncing balls to fetch, etc. so each dog can shop for the toy that most interests them! We also take short enrichment walks when the weather permits. I keep a vareity of yummy treats on hand for dogs that are not on a restricted diet because their vacay should be kind of like going to Grandma's house, right? Anytime I am sitting around watching TV I hope to have a dog in my lap or lounging nearby. That's just the way it should be! WHICH DOGS ARE A GREAT FIT FOR FURKID BOARDING? Adult dogs should be reliably potty trained to outdoors only (no potty pads) and should be comfortable around older kids as we have neighborhood kids as well as our own 3 kids (ages 10 - 15) playing in the yard. (For safety reasons we cannot accommodate dogs with respurce guarding of any kind, fence/boundary aggression or herding/nipping tendencies.) Since we keep dogs from different households at the same time, for safety reasons, dogs should be comfortable being crated or housed in a doggy playpen when we are away from home/unable to supervise them. MEET 'N' GREET! Contact me today to set up a meet'n'greet! I always prefer to meet with you & your pup before accepting a new client reservation so that we can determine together if we are a good fit for your pup's needs. We want your pup to have a great time when they are with us & that starts off right by meeting us and spending a few minutes getting comfortable with us before they are ever dropped off for a vacay. We love that at drop off, our regular dog clients run right up to the front door & can't wait to get in & greet us! MY HISTORY WITH DOGS I grew up with a black Pekingese/Poodle mix named Topper as our family pet and have loved dogs all my life! Unfortunately, I ended up with dog allergies and asthma so can only enjoy hosting non-shedding small dogs. When I married and we moved into a place where we were allowed to have pets, we adopted Andy, a very sweet Bichon-Poodle mix and our first Furkid! Andy had been running the streets of Chicago as a young adult & was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. He was severely matted and had not been well socialized to people. We hired a positive dog trainer within a few days of bringing him home as he was displaying some obvious fear issues. With consistent training and love throughout his first year with us, he turned into a wonderful pet for our family. He was with us for 13.5 wonderful years & he inspired Furkid Boarding. Unfortunately, we have lost our precious furkid, Andy, to old age but we still enjoy hosting other small non-shedding dogs that we have come to know and love over the years.

Our dog loves staying with Heather and her family. They have a great backyard for playing and exploring, and their dog and ours love to play together. Heather always pays special attention when it comes to specific instructions with regard to any medications or food diet our dog may have, and we know that our dog is always in good hands!

Heather and Mark were wonderful. She kept us updated with pictures the entire time. I could tell Liam enjoyed being there and it really made my vacation a lot more enjoyable since I wasn’t worrying so much. She treated him like family. I’m very grateful and appreciative of that. We will definitely be using them again in the future and will be recommending them to anyone who needs a pet sitter in the future. Oh and one last thing, was the kids. It made me feel good knowing how well the kids treated Liam also. He seemed really at ease around them at the meet and greet, in the pictures, and when we picked him up. Was the best experience I’ve had with pet sitters. And I’m not knocking anyone I’ve used previously, but Heather and Mark really went above and beyond in making me not worry about being away from Liam like I always do.

Heather is the best! My fur baby has been staying at Heather’s for a few years and he loves it there! We get lots of pictures and she takes the best care of Oscar while we are gone.

Information Heather K. would like to know about your pet

We specialize in accomodating small (up to 25 lbs) non-shedding dog breeds. (I have dog allergies & asthma that prevent me from boarding shedding dogs. Non-shedding dogs are those who must be groomed every 8 to 12 weeks as their hair continues to grow consistently throughout life.) Adult dogs should be reliably house trained (to outdoor elimination only, no potty pads). Dogs should be child friendly. Child friendly means that the dog is comfortable around active children who are respectful of dogs and will not nip or herd a running child or display fence or boundary aggression to kids who are entering or leaving our back yard. Rabies vaccination should be up to date (also acceptable is a titer test showing immunity to rabies) and dogs should be current on flea and tick preventive meds. (Please bring a copy of most recent vaccinations to your meet 'n' greet.)

A typical day

We have play times in the fenced back yard with doggy toys or play fetch with the dogs who enjoy it. Many dogs enjoy playing with other dogs and for those who don't care to play with other dogs, they are usually cuddling up in a warm lap being gently stroked.
