Hello! My name is Heather and I'm currently a student at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. I am available for dog walking and drop-in pet care visits in the evenings during weekdays and anytime during the weekend. I have been caring for different animals my entire life including cats, dogs, horses, cattle, small mammals, and reptiles. Prior to starting veterinary school, I worked for 3 years as a veterinary assistant at my local animal shelter in western NY. I was responsible for administerng medications and providing pre- and post-surgical care of cats, dogs, small mammals, and reptiles. Additionally, it was required of me to provide general husbandry and medication administration to cats and dogs housed in our intensive care unit. While in this position, I completed training in the care of neonatal puppies and kittens and became proficient in providing their necessary around-the-clock care. Additionally, I completed a certification program in Low Stress Handling so I am capable of handling dogs and cats if they become fearful or reactive with other animals or people. I currently own a three-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer named Nala who I rescued from the shelter I previously worked at. Nala had some behavioral issues at the shelter which I have worked on over the past few years through private training and group classes giving me additional experience in handling dogs who may be reactive, anxious, or fearful. I am an avid hiker and enjoy being outside in any kind of weather so I can help get your dog get the exercise he or she needs, even on those chilly winter days. During school breaks I volunteer at the vet school to walk the dogs in our Canine Educator program. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your furry friends!
