Big Paradise for Small Dogs

Pet care experience

I’ve been pet sitting and volunteering with animals for over 3 decades. Experience in high need, old, young, and those still learning. An RN by training, I have a calm demeanor and can handle any emergency. I am ready to cater my care and activity level to any of your pet’s needs.

Finley had the best time with Heather and her family! I loved receiving pictures of him during our trip and could tell he was having so much fun!

Heather was fantastic. She's great with dogs and has a nice yard for them to run around. Her dogs were very friendly. Overall great experience.

Safety, trust & environment

I have 2 large fenced in yards (one is a half acre!) that will allow dogs to run and play catch off leash. I do have 3 small dogs in my home, so if there are any concerns about aggression with your dog, I would be able to separate dogs during playtime. I love walking and hiking with dogs, in my quiet neighborhood or your busy street. I have two animal-loving teenagers who would no doubt contribute to your pet’s adoration while in our home. My small dogs are dog and cat friendly. I also have a car and am happy to come to you, if your pets prefer not to interact with my dogs. Each dog or cat has their own routine and personal needs, which I would be thrilled to cater to. I am however, giving priority to my daycare clients, so may not be able to do regular midday visits. I’m able to do in-home visits/walks only when I have another family member at home during that time. There’s no way for me to show certain hours on my calendar, so just message me if you need midday hours.

Information Heather D. would like to know about your pet

I’d love to know if your dog has any special needs (eg. medication, food aggression, separation anxiety, etc), what their usual schedule is (so I can keep things normal for them), and if you have any training words/activities that you’d like me to maintain. ***I. LOVE. CATS. Please hire me to do cat visits. I grew up with cats and miss having one of my own! I want to come hang out with your cat. I can also take a cat at my house, but usually in a separate space from the dogs.

A typical day

I love to go hiking with active dogs in the woods behind my house or at the nearby state park. I have endless patience for a dog who loves to smell everything or might need a constant lap to sit in. I believe in positive training with encouragement and owner-approved treats. I also love playing frisbee or ball in our large fenced in yard.

I’m currently a stay at home mom of older children, with lots of time to care for animals. I worked as a nurse-midwife for 15 years but now am home full-time and thrilled that this will allow me to follow my real passion: getting to know and caring for animals. My dream is to run a small at home daycare for about 3 additional dogs per day, with lots of repeat clients. This means that my 3 littles guys will have time to get to know all of your dogs. The more often we repeat, the better the group gets to know each other. This is great for your dogs, too! Keeping our daycare small minimizes the number of new dogs your puppy is exposed to, while offering a rewarding social experience for you dog. Our usual schedule is getting our dogs fed by 7:30am and out in the backyard for a quick morning sniff and pee. Then our teenagers out the door by 7:45am. Drop off between 7:45-9 is ideal, but just text me your preferences/needs. Then the dogs and I settle into the couches or bed for some morning cuddles and pets while I drink my coffee. Then we are outside, exploring the front fenced in area. I usually walk a perimeter and actively engage in play but also rest on the armchair. Some dogs want to be out in the yard running and barking and playing continuously and some dogs get tired and need to rest on a blanket, dog bed, or chair. Unless the weather is nightmarish, I try to spend at least half my day outside. When we go inside through the front door, there is a big carpeted play room. This is sometimes used for PT, working from home, but also a place to chase balls and hangout with each other. If a dog does a little marking on the carpet, we use the spot bot, and try better next time. The upstairs is our main living space. We have a gate, for dogs who struggle with stairs. We allow our dogs on our couches and beds, but are always willing to follow your rules. We’re happy to use a crate, etc. I often do cleaning with the dogs, my PT with the dogs. If I have to pick up one of my dog-adoring teenagers, I often will bring a few dogs for a car ride (with owner consent and safety protocols). In the afternoon the dogs and I often spend an extended amount of time outside with my kids and then head back inside for more cuddles. It’s a pretty simple life over here. I thoroughly enjoy doing it with a small pack of dogs at my side.
