Pet care experience
My 9-year-old rescue pit bull recently passed away unexpectedly. My partner and I adopted him a little over 3 years ago and did everything we could to give him a loving home filled with walks, snuggles, and other adventures. We have such a deep love for dogs and would love to welcome any dog into our home. I work from home on Mondays and Fridays and have weekends off. Before we adopted our dog in 2020, we both took care of dogs together via Rover (walks, drop-ins, house sitting, and boarding). We’re also the go-to person for friends, family, and coworkers. We’ve taken care of dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds, from puppy to senior. We even took care of our friend’s bearded dragon for a few months in summer 2017. I trained Oliver, the chocolate labrador-retriever I grew up with, when he was just a puppy. I was able to teach him the basic commands, despite his incredibly stubborn nature. In addition, I have been a dog sitter for family, friends, and coworkers. The following are just a couple of examples of dogs I’ve watched: I took care of a 2-month-old black lab mix. Her name was Rosie, and she was one of the most high-strung and energetic dogs I have ever met. I was able to wear her out by playing fetch with her in the yard, taking her for a 30-minute walk, and practicing a few basic commands with her. I checked in on her a few times a day over the course of a weekend. Her owners were impressed, and welcomed me back. Not long after that, I watched my mother's coworker's dog and cat. Sally was a seven-year-old lab/terrier mix. She was the gentlest creature I have ever met. She enjoys attention and loves being pet. Her owner asked me to check in on Sally at least once while she was away for a day. I came to her house though, and kept Sally and the cat, Bodhie company for a few hours. I came back two more times that day to take Sally out, and refill water bowls for both animals. I have a deep concern for all animals and will go above and beyond to take care of them. I enjoy walking and exploring the city. I am in tune with animals and how they react in certain situations (e.g. when they are scared, when the ground is too hot/too cold, etc.). I have loved my own dogs, and would treat other dogs just as I have treated my own. Dogs make the world a better place, so I want to make the world a better place for dogs.
Reviews
I am so grateful to Heather, she was an excellent babysitter. She made me feel like she could handle whatever my dog threw at her and that I didn’t have to worry while I was gone. When my dog got home it was clear that he had had a nice weekend with her. I would definitely use Heather again.
Heather has taken great care of my highly energetic Australian Shepherd many times, she is very good with his commands and he always looks forward to spending time with her
I think I may have rec'd this twice, but I'm happy to recommend Heather twice! Great gal, wonderful family, responsible, reliable, dependable, caring. I would be happy to have her oversee my pet any time! We have great fun sharing doggy pictures and I like to send her Jacquie Lawson cards which often feature "Chudleigh", a chocolate lab like their own Oliver! Without fail, she responds with "That made my day!". Terrific gal who will do a wonderful job.
Heather is a wonderful young woman with an exceptional bond with pets. I work with her mother and when I needed to be away, I knew instantly that she would be wonderful at taking care of my dog (and cat) during that time. She took my dog, Sally, outside for walks, fed her, checked on her, kept me posted of how things were going, petted the cat (who loved her, too) and did a great job. I would absolutely recommend her as a responsible and loving dog caregiver!

I live in a one-bedroom apartment, but there is room to run and play around. I have a large orthopedic dog bed, a large dog crate, bowls (including a slow-feeder one), and toys. Dogs are allowed on the couch and bed. I have air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. I do not have a yard, but I love going on walks and can go to nearby parks.
Information Heather A. would like to know about your pet
Each dog has unique needs, so I want to know what I can do to provide your dog with the best experience possible. I would like to know any information that you find necessary, as well as just what makes the dog happy. Does the dog have a particular history I should know about? Does he/she respond well to other dogs? Do they have any particular fears? Diet restrictions? Allergies? What do they enjoy doing? Do they prefer sleeping all day or playing and running around? What do they love? What do they hate?
A typical day
I would love to take them wherever the owner will allow. I enjoy exploring the city of Boston, so I will take them anywhere that is accessible to walk. I am willing to practice basic training commands, play fetch, take them on a nice jog, etc. Every dog has its own needs, so I am happy to craft each experience based off the needs of that particular dog.
