Third Year TAMU Veterinary Student

Pet care experience

** Starting May 2023 - I will be in 4th year veterinary student in clinical rotations. I will be available for pet sitting but will only be available to clients/pets with flexible schedules as my clinic schedule will require some flexibility. I work very hard to ensure that, regardless of my schedule, your pets are well taken care of and receive the same love that you would give them on a day to day basis. Thank you for understanding and I look forward to working with you! Being a third year veterinary student, my love for animals started at a very young age. I have worked with dogs my entire life, house sitting and dog sitting for over 12 years. I am well versed in puppy care/training as well as senior care/medications and all ages in between. I was a Small Animal Veterinary Technician for a year and a half before attending Veterinary School where I worked with and am comfortable with a variety of dog sizes/ages/breeds as well as kittens and adult cats. I am comfortable with giving medications (oral and injections) as well as monitoring for any health concerns with your pets, so your pets are safe with me. I have spent several years working with farm animals as well if you have a herd at home.

Hailey took excellent care of our Ela while we were out of town for the night. She even sent a video!!! Unfortunately our pup got a bit of diarrhea (side effect of meds). Hailey cleaned it up and kept us informed of how Ela was doing. So reassuring to have someone so capable and kind in that situation. Thanks Hailey!!

This is the first time we have left our pups with a sitter. She sent pictures and had great communication while we were gone. The dogs seemed so happy and healthy when we returned home. So glad we found someone to love on our dogs while we are away! ??

Within the clients home I usually come in during feeding times and let the pets out before feeding then while they are outside I make their food bowls. I will typically feed them and then, depending on the pet, either allow them some play time before their second potty break or if they are an immediate pottier after meals, take them outside again. I spend one on one time with each pet to ensure that they have some human interaction before leaving, whether that be just sitting on the couch for some pets or playing outside with their favorite toy. I would like to meet with you and your fur-baby before any pet sitting dates just to make sure your baby is comfortable with me and I can make sure that I am doing everything you would normally do if you were at home for your pet. Upon certain circumstances I can allow a pet into my home (usually only on a weekend). I have several fur-babies of my own that love to play so they get puppy play time. I have a fenced back yard as well as the ability to crate during the day. On the weekend I am usually home studying so the pets have free roam of the house. If you are interested in this option please let me know.

Information Hailey D. would like to know about your pet

I do not have a preference for breeds, however I do like to do a meet and greet before each new stay/visit. I believe that this is important so that they have an enjoyable experience when I come to take care of them as they do not have to wonder who I am and what I am doing at their house. It allows them to not be put on guard and my visit turns into play/positive human interaction quicker.

A typical day

I enjoy getting to take dogs around the neighborhood on their walks to let them explore the world around them. I often like to engage their mind by sprinkling in some training or "working" for treats (their kibble) by having them show off their skill/tricks. After getting to know your pet and if you are comfortable, visiting a park around you allows for a change of scenery and new smells to stimulate your pets mind.

I am currently going to school full time. My schedule allows for me to do drop in and spend time with your pets in the mornings, right after school, and then before bedtime. I typically have longer visits in the afternoon where I love to spend time doing your pets favorite activities. Generally I arrive in the morning between 6:45 and 7:15am, afternoon/after school visits should fall between 3:30-5:30 pm depending on my school schedule, and evening visits would be after 10:00 pm. I am also open for lunchtime drop-ins within a reasonable distance from the Vet School. On weekends it is more open scheduling and I am pretty flexible. With house sitting, I do have pets of my own at home, so generally I am unable to spend the nights. However, I do make sure that I am at the house at or before 7am as well as at the house at or after 10pm to ensure that they are good for the night. I make sure every pet has time to play/exercise throughout the day usually only leaving when they lay down for a nap. I can hangout at the house throughout the day, just usually cannot spend the night due to my own fur babies. If you are still wanting someone to stay overnight, please just let me know and I can see if I can accommodate depending on my schedule for the week!
