Pet Care is my Family's Business

Pet care experience

Everyone is going to be talking about how they've taken care of their neighbor's dogs since they could walk and how they loooove animals so much, and that's great! But how many 18 year old pet sitters can say they've worked under the same registered dog walking company for almost 3 years with insurance and training? In 2009 my mother started Excellent Canine Exercise and as soon as I turned 16 I started working for her. It may sound like nepotism, but she treated me the same as all her other employees. I had the standard 3-5 walks and 2-3 sitting clients per day, which came out to up to 15 visits to around 8 houses per day, as all sitting was done at the client's house. I have years of experience with training and caring for dogs, all of our domestic pets are registered therapy dogs and are decorated in the obedience ring. I have worked with every type of dog, from shepherds to mastiffs to boxers, chihuahuas to greater swiss mountain dogs, pitbulls to yorkies. I've taken care of blind cocker spaniels, deaf cavalier king charles spaniels, earless cats, and everything in between. I've cared for 4 week old puppies and 18 year old dogs, I house sat for the same client from when her cats were kittens to when they were 2 years old and watching them grow up was heart warming and satisfying. I could write for years about all my experiences with animals and I am always happy to share stories and answer questions. My availability is unfortunately limited at the moment, as I am a full-time student at Syracuse University. I am available for house sitting and walks from 2pm Friday thru Sunday. My current living arrangement does not allow for animals in my building therefore all my services are provided at the client's house or a nearby location.

Greta has worked for me as a dog walker. She is very responsible and diligent. She's calm and loving with dogs, and has good handling skills. If you have cats that need care, she's great with them too, very respectful & appropriate of them. Overall, she's a great dog walker!

Information Greta D. would like to know about your pet

I'd like to know the following about your dog before caring for them (all information is for my knowledge to best take care of your pet.) As well as the obvious name, age, and breed, I'd also like to know: Do they have any medical conditions or are they on any medications? Do they have any unusual behaviors which should not be concerning? (eg. my dog tends to lick his paws. It does no harm to him but it can seem concerning to a new pet sitter.) Are there any behaviors which I should look out for? (eg. When my puppy is sick or not feeling well he tends to scratch at furniture. He never does this when he's feeling healthy) Is your dog good with other dogs? With people? Small Children? How do they react to wild animals (squirrels, deer, etc)? How much training does you dog have? If they are trained, how well do they respond to commands, especially recall commands? Are there any behaviors which are not allowed? (jumping on furniture, begging, pulling on leash, etc.) Are there any behaviors which should be encouraged/are you actively training you dog?

A typical day

I always try to find routes with minimal car activity and maximum foliage. The more plants the better and the fewer cars and pedestrians the less we have to stop. I try to find routes that are familiar to the dog to make them more comfortable on our walk and so they can focus on having fun and getting exercised instead of being scared by a new environment and a new person.
