Rest and Relax in Rhinebeck

Pet care experience

As an owner, rescue volunteer, and lover of dogs, especially large and X-Large breeds, I find dogs to be a pleasure to have around and they brighten my day. My home is in the center of town and easy to drop off when you find yourself still having fun in our town but cannot keep your furry family member in tow. I am also easy to get to for dropping off before commuting to amtrak or down 9. There is a school to go running around in, and a nice green down the street. I will watch only one family's dogs at a time, and won't mix dogs that do not know each other. I love dogs, obviously, but I love all dogs. When I travel in other countries I take pictures of all the street dogs I see and they seem to cuddle up with me and follow me. I take pictures of those peering out their windows from their safe homes. In the US, I used to do a lot of rescue work in Washington state and New York city picking up dogs on death row at the shelters until a home was found by the rescue organization I volunteered for. In specific I volunteered for German Shorthair Pointer and St. Bernard rescues. I also did foster care work while homes were found. On my own I cannot see a dog loose without finding its owner. I have never failed. I also never rarely walk a dog without saying hi. I am those annoying people that say "Hi" to a dog before realizing they are attached to a human :) Sorry... I had six dogs throughout my childhood. As an adult, I have shared my life with another six dogs from their first days as a puppy or young adulthood until their passing. One hound in specific I rescued at 12 after he'd been found in the south, sick with heartworm, and had no options for adoption after being transported north with other dogs rescued at the same time. He lived to 17 and had a great five years with us. Another required allergy meds and I administered his shots. I love dogs of all ages and stages. Dogs in my home are family throughout their lifetime and our goal is to make them feel loved, because we just do. We don't have any dogs right now because we lost our Sophie early in her life to cancer this last December. She was our St. Bernard and baby. We miss her dearly and we are not ready to adopt at this time. My son is going away to college in less than 3 years and my other has already left this September. On occasion, I work from home as a volunteer family advocate. Our life will change in 3 years and so I would still like dogs in my life, but I cannot commit to bringing in another family member right now for another 10-15 years. Because of my teenage son, there are often a few life-long friends of my son's that stop by after school-all awesome kids who have their own pets. Pets here get extra love and hugs from friends and family stopping. Despite being a very quiet home with only me for walks and head scratches during the day, the house gets active after 4. I have an extra large crate if your pup wants their own space with their own bed you bring. If not, I have what they need. They can sleep anywhere in the house they'd like. We have upstairs for the bedrooms and because they are slippery wood we don't allow upstairs and have always had a baby gate. Our rec room is downstairs and there is a door preventing any dog from going there and falling. The main floor in the house house is the living room, dining, kitchen, one bedroom, bathroom and hallways. Lots of windows to look out from, even from dogs on the short side. I look forward to meeting your dog. I prefer a meet and greet but I know emergencies or unforseen need for doggy care is sometimes a reality and we'll take it on a case by case basis. Geraldine

Geraldine is fantastic! She's great with dogs, great with people, a kind and caring person. She asked a lot of questions about Maddie and really wanted to know all about her before we even met. It can be a little tricky with a rescue dog and meeting/trusting new people. Geraldine was an instant hit, Maddie loves her and feels so comfortable in her home. I will definitely book with her again!

Geraldine is everything I had hoped to find in my search for a dog sitter. She provided a very welcoming and safe environment for my dog Scout who was all smiles and tail wagging both on the way in and the way out. (I don't think Scout missed me for a second). We look forward to our next visit. ?

Geraldine was an absolutely fantastic dogsitter! We found out we could not keep our dog on the campground during our travels to New York and it was very last minute. She immediately relieved us by promptly accepting our request. She took the time to find out all the particulars about our baby. She made sure to do everything in her power for our dog to not feel sad when we left. It was the first time that he had to stay overnight with someone he did not know but he had a blast! Just as soon as we walked out the door she sent us pictures and videos that kept coming frequently to ease our minds about us being away from our fur child. And she only takes one dog at a time as to not have any issues with dogs not getting along. She was also very flexible! This was an amazing experience, especially when we were worried we would have to board him somewhere miserable. THANK YOU!!!
