Over 20 years working with animals

Pet care experience

First, let me thank you for your time reading this. My name is Garrett, and I am currently looking to continue a lifetime spent working with animals of all sorts. I started Volunteering at the age of 10 at a local shelter, that specialized in hard-to-home animals. Some due to medical issues, but most where highly reactivate or un-socialized before coming to us. I was able to take that solid foundation, and expand it into a career of working with animals in various ways. I have worked as a Vet Tech and front desk CSR, where I did everything from see rooms, collect blood, and assist in surgery; to run the front desk, fill proscriptions and book upcoming appointments. Detail, precision, and focus, meant every thing in that position, and they are lessons I’ve carried on through out my career. I served as the Operating Manager for a canine daycare, and boarding facility. We often had over 200 dogs arriving each morning, along with 30 employees. In addition, my responsiblities included making schedules, creating and later contacting a waiting list of new clients, and acting as the first point of contact for clients with questions or comments. Being able to multi-task and co-operate is key when dealing that many varied personalities and needs in such a short time frame. I have also had the good fortune of being the General Manager for a home pet care business. There I coordinated walkers schedules and routes, assessed new client’s needs, and kept a business cell phone on me at all times to be available to clients at aall times in case of emergencies. This was while still working full time as a walker and sitter. Flexibility and the ability to adapt helped me both keep clients happy, and insure pets had their best experience. Currently I offer training sessions and consultations for The Love Pit, a Dallas based Pit Bull rescue. Here I train and rehab dogs living in the shelter, and assist with group training classes offered to pets still in foster care, or recently adopted. Being able to give back and offer my experience to help pets have a better chance at happier more fulfilling lives, is a reward in itself. I helps me remember that even when you can’t fix everything, you can still do the good you can.

Information Garrett V. would like to know about your pet

Name, age, gender, if they are Spayed/Neutered. Are the on any medications? Are they known to be highly reactive to certain things, i.e. other dogs, cats, mail trucks. What makes them happier than anything else? Would they prefer a quick paced jog with lots of play or is a slow trout and belly rubs more their speed?

A typical day

I focus on walking in slow moving areas when ever possible so they can sniff and relax with out worrying about loud fast moving cars or busy sidewalks. I want them to be able to relax and enjoy them self. I also love a good jog with the athletic kids so don't be afraid to message me if they need a more energized experience.
