I had family dogs since I was 8 and living in Texas and was their primary trainer. We had a backyard when I was in Texas, but I took them on daily walks and ensured they received sufficient exercise. I provided for their care from puppyhood through their senior years, until they passed of old age. Afterwards, I went to university and law school, and recently adopted a senior dog of my own. I use clicker training and positive reinforcement, and I ask for good leash manners on all our walks. I have had experience training reactivity and desensitization to triggers using engage/disengage. My dog Gummi came to me very fearful and anxious and knowing zero commands, but within four months, she knew all her basic commands, loose-leash walking, and some tricks. By now, she knows 17 commands. She also opened up and became very social and playful with humans, dogs, and cats alike. Gummi was also previously highly reactive towards children and joggers, however now she is able to walk past them without a problem, and with proper and slow introductions will even let children pet her. I also have some experience providing care for cats. Gummi and I shared an apartment with my friend and his cat, and the four of us got along very well :) I have a dog of my own, who I walk four times a day for a total of about 3 hours per day. If your dog is good with other dogs, Gummi loves to make new friends and play, and she is also very good with cats and has lived with them. However, if your pet needs to remain solo, my roommates and friends contribute to Gummi's care when I am unavailable. If house-sitting, I would like like written instructions so that I may accurately follow your pet's schedule. I would also like a list of commands they know, what motivates them, and any notes on reactivity or other behavior I should be aware of.
