Animal friends are family.

Pet care experience

Leaving your animal friends at home can be heart-breaking! I am here to love your pets and keep them enriched, safe, and happy while you're away. I grew up with dogs (including St Bernards), guinea pigs, and rabbits and a bevy of small critters. I currently live with three extraordinarily opinionated cats. I have worked as a volunteer dog walker and cat carer at my local shelter, and am an experienced cat and dog sitter. I miss having regular dog friends to go on walking adventures with! I have been actively caring for animals for 25 years, including dogs and cats with anxiety and disabilities. I am comfortable working with shy, anxious animals, and dogs and cats who require a little bit extra medical or other care. For dog and cat drop-in visits, I will provide meals and medications, play time, brushing and cuddles (as your friends prefer). I handle litter box and yard scoop duties with ease! And, of course, I am excited to get out with new dog pals for walks or outside time. I may not be the best fit for an exuberant husky who wants to run, run, run, or a border collie who needs to bound up trails, but I am a perfect sidekick for a dog who wants to go on more laid-back urban expeditions to dog cafes, parks, or trails around the bay. I have a special place in my heart for senior pups, and will be happy to take your old friends on meandering walks where they can sniff what they like at their own pace. I know you will miss your friends while you are away and would be delighted to send you text and photo pupdates on our daily adventures. I value your piece of mind and reply promptly to your queries and concerns. I am also happy to water/turn plants, bring in mail, and care for any other small animal members of your family!

Erin was our first dog-walker and she was great! She clearly loved animals and enjoyed spending time with them. She was able to understand when our dog did (or didn't) want to play with other dogs and kept her from eating various road snacks. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Erin was great with our two dogs! She set up a meet & greet and asked tons of really detailed and insightful questions to get to know our dogs, and had amazing communication while she was watching them, with pictures and updates. Our two dogs were in great hands and we would use Erin again in a heartbeat!

My dog loves going on walks with Erin. She is great at following the trainer’s recommendations as we work on his leash skills.

Erin was amazing with my new dog overnight - she was kind and patient and made him very happy, even when he was a bit of a brat keeping her up at night ???

Information Erin J. would like to know about your pet

It's important to me to get to know your friends as individuals. At our first meet and greet, I will ask you about comprehensive general care and veterinary information, including: -dietary needs and restrictions; -medication information (I am experienced in giving oral pills and liquid medications, topical creams, eye and ear drops); -their regular vet contact info and your preferences for handling a veterinary emergency. For dogs, I will also ask: -Whether they are leash trained (and what commands they respond to); -How they interact with other dogs/animals/people; -What their preferred length of walk is, and whether they have any conditions that might require shorter walks or extra precautions in extreme weather; -If they have any...indecorous behaviours you want me to watch out for (i.e. one of my best dog friends is extremely fond of discarded sandwiches and goose poop so I am alert to avoid those!) Additionally, I would like to know more about your friend's personality and how I can make their time away from you as stress-free as possible. I will ask: -Whether your dog or cat is more outgoing or more reserved (I live with a formerly feral cat and know that being patient and respectful of shy/anxious animals leads to the best friendships); -Their favourite treats, toys, and games; -Their favourite places (whether it's a sunny window perch or a favourite walking route). To ensure both of our safety, I will also ask about: -Places/sounds/objects that might trigger anxious behaviour; -How you typically calm your dog or cat when they are anxious or excited; - If they have any nervous or mischievous habits you would like me to watch out for/manage (i.e. one of my cats is food obsessive and needs to have all foods -- human and cat -- safely locked up). I love giant breed dogs, but unfortunately am not in a position to take them on as clients at this time. I get along best with dog friends who walk on leads with minimal pulling (though I understand that any pup might get a little excited when there are squirrels around!). I am very comfortable working with easy-going/well-trained large dogs.

A typical day

We will go on your doggo's favourite urban walks and dog park adventures! I love visiting the dog cafe with extroverted dogs (if your pup is allowed we can even pick up their favourite treat). I am also happy to accompany senior, disabled, or more reserved dogs on shorter walks in the spaces they know and feel safe (or just hang out together in the yard, if that's their preference). I also love spending time cuddled up indoors with senior cat and dog friends. I love books and writing, and have even been known to read bedtime stories to my cats on occasion.
