I've had dogs my entire life and I have a dog of my own now. When I lived at home, I did dogsitting and housesitting for 5 years. This included taking the dogs out, feeding them, playing with them, and walking them. In the past, I worked at a dog daycare. This job included watching over and playing with large groups of dogs, walking them to and from their kennel, feeding them lunches, taking pictures, and memorizing names and building relationships. These jobs have really set me up to handle the responsibility of caring for animals in any given situation, whether that be age, medical issues, energy level, etc.
