Ideally I would get some information about their temperament and who they do and don't play well with (other dogs, men, cats, kids, etc.) so that I can anticipate how situations will play out to make sure everyone is comfortable. I also want to use that information to make sure the needs of the dog are being met in terms of things like exercise and attention. I love pitties, labs, Bernese mountain dogs, and big dogs in general but I've been hard pressed to meet a dog I didn't like.

I'm really lucky that my neighborhood has a couple incredible parks and the area is relatively hilly so walks are always an adventure at my house. I also have a fenced in yard so for dogs who prefer getting their wiggles out through some zoomies and fetch so that's also an option. I love hiking so if your dog shares that joy I'd love a hiking buddy but I also enjoy sitting in the living room watching a movie and getting some snuggles. I like to match the energy of the dogs I look after and let them to push me to shake things up.
