Senior and Small Dog Specialist

Pet care experience

I am a full time pet parent. I work from home part time and am always available for dogs in my care. My husband works from home so if I'm unavailable he's usually around. I have two of my own dogs, Aiko (mini Schnauzer, female, 8) and Lula (Cairn Terrier, female, 10) - both 20lb each. Both of my dogs are well socialized and are friendly towards other dogs. I also am an occasional foster dog-mom for a local animal rescue where I take in homeless dogs until they are ready to be adopted. If I'm expecting to have a foster dog I'll be sure to tell you before booking. I try to only watch dogs from one family at a time. Ever since I was 10 years old I've had my own dogs. I used to train and show my dogs in obedience trials. I'm comfortable with dogs of all sizes, but to keep my own dogs comfortable I dog-sit only small and medium sized dogs in my house. I'm confident in administrating oral medications for dogs and preforming basic grooming tasks like brushing. I specialize in senior and small dogs, who need a quieter and calmer atmosphere. You can expect regular updates about your dog along with pictures if requested.

Emma and her husband took very good care of our dog Bentley. We were impressed with their house and backyard. They are also very very nice and welcoming. Their dogs are well behaved and got along so great with our dog. We got pictures and updates from Emma while our dog was in her care and our dog looked so relaxed and happy. We would definitely book with Emma again and recommend to anyone looking for a safe and relaxing dog sitter.

Emma and her husband were so nice and very attentive to my dogs’ needs. It makes all the difference in the world knowing your beloved pets are in good hands while away. This was my first time using Rover and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I would recommend Emma for the care of your pets in a heartbeat! I received daily updates that included pictures, which was great to see how they were doing throughout my trip. Thank you so much Emma for giving me peace of mind while I was on vacation!

Safety, trust & environment

I have a spacious and clean backyard (mix of grass/rocks/mulch) with a secure, recently built, 6ft privacy fence. There is a sturdy gate to the exterior that's always closed (its firmly latched but not locked). The perimeter of my property is compacted dirt covered with rock, making digging under the fence difficult. Time in the backyard can be fully supervised or minimally supervised as needed. In nice weather I'll often leave the backdoor open so dogs can come and go as they please. There are never any children in the house so your dog will have a calm environment. My husband is the only other human occupant, he mostly works from home. My husband is a very calm person and, obviously, loves dogs. My house is very dog friendly. Dogs in my care are welcome (encouraged even!) to sit on the furniture or my bed if they wish (if you dog isn't permitted to do this, I'll do my best to respect your rules). Areas of my house that are off limits to dogs are fenced off with baby gates/closed doors. Clean water is available in multiple rooms of the house at all times. Feeding times are flexible to cater to your dogs needs. I'm happy to discuss special diets or feed requirements (such as heating homemade food up, limiting access to allergens, possibly even making fresh meals, circumstances depending). My own dogs are never crated, however I am happy to use your crate if this makes your dog comfortable. Daily walks around my quiet neighborhood are available - we have a few miles of natural trails along with concrete sidewalks), and I live close to Fox Run Regional Park which has a terrific dog park (for dogs who are experienced with dog parks - going to a public dog park isn't available in all situations). My own two dogs are older now and calm and will not harass your dog (they'll be excited to meet your dog initially but will likely lose interest pretty fast). We have a lot of dog toys available for play times and you're welcome to bring your own toys (toys will be hidden if they are a problem). Unless otherwise requested, your dog will sleep in my bedroom with my husband and I, either in their crate or on their own dog bed. If your dog sleeps on your bed with you we may be able to accommodate this too. There are many dog beds scattered throughout the house so there is always somewhere nice to sleep (please consider bringing your dogs own bed though so there is something that smells familiar).

No breed/gender preferences, however to keep my own dogs comfortable, I do only sit for small to medium sized dogs. I specialize in senior and older dogs. Please be honest about your dogs toilet training skills. Accidents happen and I'm fine with that. Dogs with still developing skills or incontinency issues will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please be upfront regarding any negative behavioral issues such as biting, growling, barking, resource guarding, aggression in any form etc. My own dogs are fully vaccinated (including Rabies and Bordetella (kennel cough)). I do require that any dogs coming into my house also be fully vaccinated, I may ask for proof. Dogs should be free of parasites including fleas, ticks, worms etc. Please let me know if your dog is undergoing treatment for any parasite condition.

A typical day

We like to go on walks around my quiet neighborhood. We have walking trails and open spaces to enjoy. We live near Fox Run Regional Park which has a terrific off-leash dog park (including a dedicated small dog area). I am happy to take dogs to the dog park (by car) if the owner has taken them to one before and can attest that the dog is well behaved and will come when called (service is offered on a case-by-case basis). In my house we have a large variety of dog toys to play with. Dogs are also encouraged to bring their own favorite toys from home. We have an automatic toy/treat dispenser that requires dogs push a button in order to get a treat, this is a great new learning experience for many dogs. If your dog just wants to snuggle then we can absolutely accommodate that!!!!

Availability

I work from home part time but am home (almost) full time to be available for my own dogs and those dogs whom I'm sitting for. I am available 7 days per week. I usually try to avoid leaving the house when my husband isn't home to stay with the dogs but it is sometimes unavoidable. I am available to help with reoccurring/regular daycare. Flexible care for occasional overnight boarding or daycare is also available. Short notice stays are often available, although all dogs new to my care will need to attend a meet and greet session first. Early morning or late evening drop-off/pickups are available with prior arrangement. A "Meet and Greet" session (no cost, approximately 15-30 mins) is a requirement for all new clients so I can meet your dog and they can meet me and my dogs. I like to do meet and greets at my home so I can see your dog in my environment. Meet and Greets are low stress; your dog will explore my house and backyard with just you and myself. We'll discuss your dogs needs and ask/answer questions. If this step is successful then I'll introduce my own dogs. In the case of longer boarding requests for new clients, I may require that a day of daycare occur prior to the boarding booking (charged at current daycare rates). Some dogs behave very differently when their owners aren't around and its easier if this is identified before you've left town!
