House/dog sitting got me through college! I've had big dogs since I was a kid and am partial to fur, snuggles and slobber. My husband says I speak dog better than I speak people. I recognize that a tired doggo is a good doggo and have a car big enough to transport big (or small) dogs on big adventures! I'd rater house-sit than board as dogs are more comfortable in their own familiar environment and sticking with their usual routines.
