Responsible, reliable pet care :)

Pet care experience

I have been around dogs (and other animals) my entire life, and have dedicated a lot of my life to rescuing animals. I worked for about a year as a grooming and training assistant, my very talented boss taught me a lot in that time. I can perform most grooming tasks that do not involve clippers, this includes: nail trims, ear cleanings, baths, brushing, combing, drying, ear trimming, feet trimming, and anal glands. I was in charge of puppy classes and several other training sessions. Tired dogs behave better! I'm all about the play and exercise, and I have trained dogs in the past for sports such as, agility, dock diving, disc and sledding, though I have not been able to compete with any dog yet.

Emily did a great job looking after our dog and keeping us informed on a daily basis with pictures and texts. She is really knowledgeable about dogs and is very conscientious. Our dog came home healthy and happy after her week at Emily’s and we’d definitely board her with Emily again.

Emily was great! She provided detailed and frequent updates on our dogs. She was informative, friendly and very caring. She even provided grooming tips. We would use her services again and recommend her.

She gave numerous updates on my dog bane. He got stung by a bee on a walk, which is definitely my dogs doing, Emily removed the stinger and asked about meds before giving him any. Would definitely book again. Thanks y’all.

I care for pets as if they are my own, this includes making sure they are pain free, eating properly, receive grooming as needed (brushing and nail trims, any other grooming would be talked about with the pet owner prior to it occurring.) I believe that a tired pet is a happy pet, so we make sure to spend a lot of time playing, walking and burning off their energy. I do try to follow your pets normal schedule, and I do put dogs away in the crates for short periods of time each day. This is typically for them to eat their own meals while my son is eating, or when I have to step outside, as I do not leave any dogs (even my own dog) with my son unattended. At this time I do require proof of a rabies vaccination as well as flea prevention before I can accept your dog/s into my home. I often will take dogs for a daily walk through our wooded property, and with that there is always a chance we come across a wild animal. Rabies vaccination is important to me, to keep your pet and my family safe. I cannot accept animals into my home that have fleas as my own dog is extremely sensitive to them, so I cannot allow an infestation in my home. Dogs will be checked for fleas upon arrival, and the stay will be cancelled if there are fleas or signs of fleas (bites, flea dirt) on your animal.

Information Emily B. would like to know about your pet

I need to know about any aggression issues: human or animal, food, or toy possessiveness. Health issues! Any health problems need to be brought up in the beginning of our conversation, so that I can stay on the watch for any problems arising. Knowing any issues your dog may have can help me keep them as safe as possible! I also have each and every client fill out this questionnaire about each of their dogs. This is to help me to provide the best care I can for your pet: Is ____ house trained? Has _____ been around children? Has _____ been around cats? Is _____ crate trained? Will you be sending _____ crate with them for them during their stay? (I do have crates available, but for very large dogs, I may not have an appropriately sized crate available.) Does _____ usually jump over baby gates? Is _____ currently on a flea/tick preventative? Is _____ allowed on furniture? When does ____ eat, and how much? Can you provide proof of _____ rabies certificate? How much exercise does _____ get on a normal day for them? What time does _____ usually get up, and go to bed? Would you like for me to trim _____ nails while in my home? What commands does ____ know? (Sit, down, come, stay, etc) Does ____ have any important quirks? (Such as being afraid of thunderstorms, or needing a specific routine before I leave the house?)

A typical day

Lots of playing! I try to make sure dogs get one-on-one with me, and if they are good with other dogs, they get lots of playing time with my dog, Vega! I have lots of toys on the premises; including: tennis balls, nylabones, and squeaker toys! I also have several different areas available in my home, for separation of dogs if need be. I have had experience dealing with dogs that did not get along, and with dogs that have food and toy aggression. In my current home, the layout of the house makes it very easy to have dogs in different areas of the house if need be. Even to just separate for food or play, it's safety first! I live on a 400 acre plot in the Maine wilderness and we many trails on the property that are only used by our family. This is where I walk with my dog and son daily (in good weather.) The grasses do get a bit tall out there however, so I will ask you about tick prevention and recommend it, and I will do a thorough check for ticks once back in my home. I always carry water on me when we go out and, I also choose not to walk when the sun is highest in the sky, instead walking when it is a little bit cooler, typically in the mornings. if you do not want for your dog to be brought through the woods, that is okay too, just please communicate that with me :) I accept doggy daycare clients in my home along with boarding dogs overnight on occasion, so sometimes I do have other dogs in my home that are not owned by me. I do require proof of being fully up to date on vaccinations before allowing client dogs into my home. I have gates, and separate rooms dedicated to the dogs, along with a lot of experience, due to having so many foster dogs through the years, for keeping dogs apart.

I am currently a stay at home mom, and while some days I do pop out to run errands and I drive my husband to and from work each weekday, I am typically home the rest of the day. I am currently only able to work with dogs that are child friendly, as I do have my three year old son with me at most times.
