Pet care experience

After a great run in Lower Manhattan, I am now pleased to offer exceptional pet care services to the dogs and cats of Jersey City! PERSONALIZED. I'm a passionate and dedicated dog caretaker with over 20 years of experience in the field. When your dog is with me, he or she is my top priority, and the focus of all my attention. I'll be in communication with you prior to our first visit to ensure that your dog and I have the best possible experience together, and are on the road to success in future visits. I tailor my visits to your specifications. Special feeding and walk needs are included within my base price. Do you have a walk route you'd like me to follow? Specific number of times I need to throw the tennis ball? Hand-feeding? Nothing is too specific or too detailed for me. Each experience I have with your pet is built to conform to their and your requirements. I find it very rewarding to provide individual experiences for each and every pet and client - and photos and texts are, of course, included. PROFESSIONAL. I am skilled and enthusiastic in all facets of dog care and training, including: -Walks of all speeds and intensities, from a sedate trot around the block, to a "dog jog" designed to wear out the wildest of woofers. I work on good leash behavior with your dog while we're out, practicing loose-leash walking, attentiveness, and remaining calm around distractions. -Veterinary nursing: with multiple years' experience as a veterinary assistant, I am confident in medication administration, hospice nursing, and care of pets with diverse medical needs. -Positive-reinforcement training (see below for details) -Silver Certified in Low-Stress Handling (see below for details) -Bathing/basic grooming for all breeds, including nail trimming, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, and more. I also provide all my normal services for cats, so if you're in a dog/cat combo household, I've got you covered. POSITIVE. My goal for every interaction with your dog is that we both leave happier than we were before I arrived. I'm a proponent and practitioner of positive-reinforcement and clicker training, and have practiced these techniques since their inception. I also specialize in counter-conditioning and desensitization for reactive or fearful dogs. I am Silver Certified in Low-Stress Handling (Google "Sophia Yin Low Stress Handling" or ask me for details on the program, as Rover does not permit links in profiles.) My goal is to be the best walker or sitter you and your dog have ever had. My rates are higher than some of the competition, but my skills, dedication, and experience are well worth the cost. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or requests. I can't wait to meet your dog!

6 outta 5 stars. I'd never used Rover before or even left my pup with a stranger, but needed somebody in a pinch when I had to leave town. Met Emily, watched her meet my dog, and immediately felt reassured that he'd be in good hands. She obviously knows a lot about dogs, but she went above and beyond in being communicative with updates and making sure my dumb pup felt plenty loved.

Emily is a true angel. She was so great with Sage, and was super communicative with updates which I appreciated so much. Emily asked loads of questions about Sage's routine/health/temperament at our meet and greet, which showed how thoroughly she cares for the animals she looks after. It's wonderful to have a dog-sitter you feel confident in, and Emily is your girl! Sage and I can't wait for Emily to come back soon.

Information Emily B. would like to know about your pet

In order to give your dog the best possible experience when he or she is with me, I'll ask you to provide me as much information as you can about his or her personality - likes, dislikes, any behavioral issues or triggers, relevant medical and behavioral history, and a comprehensive list of any medications or allergies. The more I know about your pooch, the better friend and caretaker I can be to them. I'm an equal-opportunity dog junkie, but everyone's got their favorites. Having grown up with Pugs and English bulldogs, I have a soft spot for bracycephalic (or, as they're more commonly known, "flat-faced") dogs. I'm also well-acquainted with the medical concerns that can come along with these breeds, and skilled at managing such typical "brachy" issues as exercise intolerance, specialized walk equipment, and particular digestive needs. In addition to the squish-faced persuasions, I adore large-breed (60+ pound) dogs and "bully" breeds. I'm a former AKC/UKC Junior Handler, who trained and showed Great Danes, Doberman Pinschers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and American Pit Bull Terriers; I've loved big, high-intensity dogs for as long as I can remember. These pups often need extra time and attention to keep their energy and emotional sensitivity well-managed - and I'm the perfect person for the job!

A typical day

I love walking dogs all over Jersey City, from catching breezes on the waterfront to eyeballing squirrels in one of the many beautiful parks. When I'm at home with your dog, my time is their time. We might get frisky with some of their favorite toys and games - maybe spending some "play and train" time using toys to encourage good manners and basic obedience. On a rainy day, cuddling up on the couch with Netflix and snacks (popcorn for me, maybe a bully stick for pupper?) is a nice way to share space. For more get-up-and-go dogs, extra walks or more vigorous play are always an option - a tired dog is a happy dog!
