I currently live with a grandfather who suffers from Alzheimer’s. I have learned that having a dog not only makes him happier but enables him to be more alert and aware. Our dog brings him immense joy and appreciation... which is why I strive to allow him to have time and companionship with our dog, Gumbo. I have learned how to properly handle gumbo around my grandpa while also helping to care for his needs as well. Gumbos name comes from a New Orleans based dish of soup and New Orleans also happens to be my grandpas first home. Gumbo and my grandfather share a love for one another that’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen and I am so blessed to help make this companionship able.
