One dog at a time...

Pet care experience

I was the child who always had lost or stray animals (and once a horse!) follow me home. Since I was a little girl I had a way with animals. I grew up with my Irish setter Meaghan, with whom I shared a playpen. I've spent my life teaching children kindness and empathy for all living things. And I lead my life doing so. That's what I offer you and your precious pet. I'm retired and home a good deal, so I am available for extra lovin.' I have numerous references from professional trainers, clients, the ASPCA Rehabilitation Center, Canine Companions for Independence and the Executive Director of St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center. And I love animals. Of course! All animals! I helped raise orphaned baby robins, blue jays, hawks and owls, and helped fix their broken bones and injuries at a wild bird hospital for ten years.

Ellen is such a caring person. I am happy to have found her through this site. Our dog is always happy at her house and we get updates and pictures from her. We can rest easy while we are away. Thank you again for taking such great care of our dog for us!

Ellen is a wonderful person who treats our dog just like her own. This is our 2nd time leaving our dog with her for an extended period of time and our dog had so much fun and received so much love for his entire visit! We will always use Ellen for our sitter, she is a wonderful person and our dog just loves her! Thank you Ellen for all that you did for Andy!

I was worried at first because Ellen has a cat and a dog, but we took the dogs over and they all got along well. Ellen sent updates and pictures every day and we could see the dogs were happy and well cared for. We would definitely book with Ellen again.

We were happy with the care that our Princess received! We got to meet before and we were sure she will be taken care of properly. After the drop off we got a couple of pictures and she seemed happy and even was playing with other dogs which she loves. Thank you! Would recommend to anyone

Information Ellen G. would like to know about your pet

Please note: I will not host dogs that are not 100% housetrained or bark continuously. Alarm barking when someone is at the door is appropriate. I take my dog out at least every 4-5 hours, and often keep her outside with me when I am gardening or working outside. Some older dogs need a mid-night potty break: Just let me know! I want to know how best to make pupper comfortable, especially if she or he is worried about being in strange places. If puppy likes laying on furniture or on my bed, that's fine. Has puppy ever been mistreated before coming to you? Is he head shy? Fearful of strangers, or bicycles? Leash reactive? Favorite games? Tug, catch, fetch? Does puppy like to be crated? Is there anything puppy does not like? Some dogs are sensitive to having their hind quarters touched, or guard food, or guard toys? Storms? Children? Separation anxiety? Does your dog need frequent potty breaks? Or a special diet? Does puppy chase cats? I have a very relaxed, tolerant cat that is fine around dogs, but I can't have a dog chasing him or even trying to play. Sid is very old and just wants to sleep. Medications? Special needs? Allergies? I need to know what to do to keep puppy healthy while with me. Cost of $32/ day is based on a 24 hour period, from time of drop off to pick up. "Later" pick up (2+ hours after the 24 hour "day") will be @$2.50/hour.

A typical day

My experience: * Humane Education Manager at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in NJ for 9 years. In that time my lab Lucy and I taught over 25,000 area schoolchildren to be gentle, tolerant and kind to animals and people. * I raised and trained three puppies (Fynn, Wilbur and Charlie) as potential assistance dogs for cci dot org. * I helped the ASPCA Behavior and Rehabilitation Center train seriously unsocialized dogs from hoarding and puppy mills by participating "set-ups." Note: I only board one dog at a time, unless you have two dogs. Like my Lab Lucy, your pupster will have run of my house and of my heart.
