Grand Tails Boarding & Grooming

Pet care experience

EFFECTIVE 8/15/2016 - New rates and policies for pick up and drop off, meet and greet required prior to booking for first time guests, documentation now required for Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella vaccines, and a current flea preventative. Returning guests, please message me for a custom quote! Hi! And welcome to Grand Tails. Our family would love to watch your furry friend while you are away on vacation, those pesky work trips, and long work days. We are a family of 4 humans, 3 dogs and 2 cars. My husband works full time at Boeing on the swing shift, and I am primarily a stay at home mom to our two little ones, I do have more than 7 years of professional pet care experience, and I have had animals in my home all of my life . Our son is almost 3, and loves dogs. He is always saying hi and giving gentle loves to them (he does not pull ears, tails or fur), our daughter is a year and a half and is a little more reserved around the dogs. We are every vigilant with the interactions between dogs and kids as a safety precaution and no one is left unattended together. I do go do pet visits and dog walks in the late morning before my husband heads into work in the afternoon, and I am primarily home in the afternoons with the kiddos, there may be one night a week that I am out of the house for a few hours. Tucker and Trixie are a bit over bearing and vocal when a new friend comes over, but after the initial “sniff fest” they settle down and prefer to watch everyone else play and be the mediators. Our puppy will be a different story I am sure, he will be joining our family at the end of August. I can assure you that he will be as sweet as can be and well socialized early on with all the friends that stay with us of all shapes and sizes. We do have two kitties, but they live in our Master Bedroom, and do not have any contact with guest dogs. We do require that your dog be crate trained for sleep and while we are out of the house, we currently have one kennel for a small dog, and we ask that you provide the crate upon drop off. When we are home dogs have free reign of our downstairs and get as many potty breaks as needed, when its nice outside the backyard is also available for hanging out or playing with friends. We have found that when dogs have a space they can call their own while they stay with us that it helps everyone to settle in, and sleep through the night. Sometimes having too many friends is just too much fun! A typical day in our house starts between 8-9 with a trip outside to do business, followed by breakfast and another potty break, or playtime outside weather permitting. Late morning and afternoons are spent playing or lounging around the house. We will be scheduling small group trips to a quiet fenced doggy park to run out pent up energy a few days a week, please let me know if this is something you would like your dog to do during their stay. Evenings are started with dinner, and a potty break, then some one on one snuggles after the kiddos head to bed for the night. We are night owls, so they are able to play and lounge out of their crates until at least 11pm when we head to bed. We do accommodate more than one family at a time, with a maximum of 5 dogs in addition to our dogs. We have lots of experience separating dogs if necessary in our home. If you have any concerns or requests that your dog be the only one we have during a stay, please message me and we can further discuss availability, accommodations and fees. We require a meet and greet for new clients prior to confirming a reservation to ensure that we are a good fit for your dog, and that your dog is a good fit for our home and lifestyle. Meet and greets will be conducted at the Kelly’s Latte’s Dog Park in Kent off of 132nd AVE SE at an agreed upon time. This is a great way for everyone to get to know each other on neutral ground, and it is easier to chat about the specifics of care while new friends get to play. I will always have my dogs at meet and greets. Please be aware that until our puppy is neutered next October (2017) that we will be unable to accept any non-spayed females, NO exceptions. I will also need to be sure that any non-neutered males will not be aggressive at the meet and greet. One evening each weekend we have a family dinner. Pick up and drop off will need to be done before we go to dinner (1pm) or after we get home(8pm). Pick up times at the end of a stay after 1pm will be charged $15 for Daycare on the last day. Please arrange this before confirming a reservation. Ask me about a bath before pick up, pick up and drop off services, and scheduling 30 minute walks during your dogs stay with us!! If you opt for a bath before pick up there isn’t an addition Daycare fee for pickup after 1pm. Holiday Rates (+ $5 per night/per dog) will be used on the following holidays : New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day We do offer special rates for stays lasting more than 10 nights! DAYCARE - SCHEDULE AND COMPLETE 10 DAYCARE STAYS, GET 1 FREE!!!! BOARDING - SCHEDULE AND COMPLETE 3 STAYS, GET 1 NIGHT FREE ON YOUR NEXT STAY!!!! Elizabeth was fantastic! Sam was able to stay in his routine so he was comfortable and happy. He was at ease when we returned which was a good indication that he had been well cared for. In addition, the house was left in perfect condition. I give Elizabeth 5 stars and would recommend her to my family and friends.

Elizabeth was nice and very accommodating, especially during the holidays. Unfortunately I don't think I will be taking Griz back. Griz's bed, crate and food/water bowls had his blood all over them when I picked him up. His nose was torn open on something and it bled everywhere. There was no attempt to clean it up or treat the nose that I could see. Additionally, he came back panicked and skittish which took a few days to overcome at home. I had brought Griz here before and he came home in good spirits but I could not in good conscience take him back based on this last experience.

Elizabeth was very accommodating with meeting dates/times. Unfortunately our pup's bed was completely urine stained when we got her back, and she had never before wet the bed (and previously she has easily been alone for 4hrs). Also, it would have been nice to get some kind of communication during the 6 days our pup was there, just to know all was well.

Information Elizabeth T. would like to know about your pet

Some things I like to know before your fur baby stays with us; Any allergies, food or environmental Any medications they may need, even supplements Does your baby get along with other dogs and children? Does your baby have any known aggression, food, toys, etc? Does your baby have any special quirks, or behaviors I should know about? Are there any medical conditions I need to be aware of? And if so, should an issue arise what can I do to help?

A typical day

Dogs in our home are allowed everywhere, we want them to be a part of the family. We have a fully fenced yard that dogs can romp and play in when we are home. Most weekends we spend one day at Lake Tapps at my in-laws. It is fully fenced and on nice days we take pups with us for a day of play with our dogs and their 2. They always come home exhausted from running all day! For the most part either my husband or I are home until about 1pm for potty breaks and breakfast. Afternoons vary as my husband works swing shift, and it's when I run errands. I am also away from home 1 evening a week for about 5 hours as I bowl in a league., I am very flexible if your baby needs someone home most of the day. I do prefer that dogs at least be kennel trained, it is only for safety should someone have a food aggression or be destructive. Most pups that stay in our home are not kenneled at all, unless requested by the parent. When we are not home and at night guest pups will sleep downstairs, this area of our home is 100% dog proof and free of children's toys. They can crash on the couches, or anywhere on the floor. Feel free to bring their bed for them to sleep on :) We are easy going, if you have any special requests or questions about life in our home, bunts ask!!!
