Experienced Veterinary Technician

Pet care experience

Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth, and I am 28 years old. I have been trusted by the community to care for pets for 14 years. Since childhood, I have always worked with animals. I have extensive animal experience with a multitude of species, as it was my dream to go to vet school. I graduated from University of Maryland in May 2020 with a Bachelor's in Animal Science: Pre-Vet. I work in an animal hospital as a veterinary technician and assist in surgery. I have been a technician since 2013. I am applying to veterinary school this year - it takes about 2 years to be accepted/enrolled. I am enrolled in a Masters degree program through University of Florida in Shelter Medicine. When I am sitting for you, I provide updates as often as requested and frequently take my own notes. Below you will find specifications about my services. I hope you decide to book with me :) Housesitting: I will stay in your home from 9pm-9am for a flat rate ($130). I do not charge extra for additional pets. All pets must be on the Rover profile to be protected by Rover's guarantee. I do not provide "constant care", which means I will leave during the day to work my other job. I would be willing to stay with your pet 24/7 for an hourly rate. I will be able to accommodate midday drop-ins on a case by case basis. Drop-Ins: I will spend 15-30 minutes checking on your pet and feeding/walking as needed. If you need me for more than 30 minutes, I also have an hourly rate. The fee is a FLAT RATE because I do not charge for additional pets. Holiday Rate: I do not charge holiday rates, but I will ask for a tip on holidays because it takes me away from my family. Contact me anytime for a care estimate! ________________________________________________________ Animal Experience: Reptiles (including snakes) - 14 years Spiders (i.e. tarantulas) - 14 years Dogs - 14 years, Puppies and Seniors - 7 years Cats - 18 years, Seniors - 18 years Feral Cats - 10 years Goats, Sheep, Pigs - 7 years Chickens - 10 years Services: - administering any medications - monitoring temperature, heart rate - proper handling and restraint of fearful animals - simple grooming such as nail trims*, brush out, and baths - house sitting tasks such as grabbing your mail on my way in or keeping the plants alive - cleaning up after the pets (I like it when pet parents come home to a clean house!) - tracked walks - travel within many areas of Maryland including Carroll, Howard, Prince George's counties (extensive travel will result in a slight upcharge ($10) for gas costs) - live feeding including crickets, superworms, rats, mice, etc. for reptiles - fish tank maintenance *nail trims and other grooming services are for ALL species including cats, birds, reptiles, etc. ___________________________________________________________ Through my Animal Science degree at University of Maryland, I am well-versed in proper handling techniques of dogs, cats, and farm animal species. I have been involved in animal rescue for 7 years-current and have worked with frightened dogs including dogs with a bite history. I simply do not get bit (that being said, please tell me if there is a bite history). In rescue, if you the human get bit the animal could be put down, so I have learned to read animal behavior to protect both myself and the frightened pet. Its not their fault if they are scared - many times it is actually ours! As a veterinary technician, I very regularly administer SQ fluids, injectables, pills, insulin, etc. without assistance. I also offer nail trims in the comfort of your home. I prefer indoor only cats (due to safety concerns) but I have experience letting a cat out am/pm for outside time. I have extensive experience with feral cats and can absolutely feed your outside colony.

I have four cats and had to go overseas to visit family after six years! I have never used Rover, let alone have a stranger come into my house was pretty stressful enough. After thoroughly reading Liz’s profile, I decided to book with her way back in June. We spoke over the phone and felt better after that. Nearing our trip which was in December that she came over for a meet and greet. That’s when I told myself that I think I made the right decision. Liz is very nice and thorough. She knows what she is doing. And with her experience as a vet tech, it helps very much since I have a cat who just had some urinary issues and was still on his final leg of meds just right before we left. Another cat with poop issues since she has separation anxiety. While we were away, she sent us photos and uodates everyday which I appreciate very much. I am very glad that my purr babies were alright. I would very much book with her in the future!

Elizabeth was a great caretaker for my cat! She had clear communication and took great photos. I had been away on a stressful trip, but Elizabeth's updates gave me peace of mind.

I don’t vacation without my pets coming along with me, so you know I’m very attached to my animals :) The one time I left a kitty behind, I had a personal friend come stay with her, and I left a typed list littered with sharpie instructions. Basically, what I’m saying is that I am super selective with my own pets and expect you to be selective with your sitter too. I expect you to want me to do exactly what your pets need, and I’m ready to do that for you. Once you find the right sitter it can be so freeing to know they’re in good hands and be able to enjoy your trip without worry. The only person to ever come along with me to my visits is my girlfriend, who happens to be an ER veterinarian. For safety reasons, I usually ask if she can come along with me to the meet and greet visit. Being a young woman in an unfamiliar house can be unnerving. I am more than willing to introduce any clients to her!

Information Elizabeth R. would like to know about your pet

Some clients give me a typed list of specifications and some tell me to “just let the pup out”. Whatever you need, let me know up front. I’ll be honest with you up front if I’m too booked to accommodate your pets' needs.

A typical day

If we have trails nearby where your pet is comfortable, I will choose to stay within the territory. I love taking dogs for trips in the car to local parks where we have more room to play - but it’s up to the pet parent.

I am a veterinary technician part-time at an animal hospital. At this time I am only able to accept new clients close to home or close to my work. I like to be nearby my clients in case of pet emergencies. For overnights ($130) I will stay at your home from 9-10pm that night until 9-10am the next morning. I am able to let your pups out 3x during that stretch or more if necessary. I also feed breakfast in the morning. I charge $130 for this time because I miss my own pets at home, and I’m a very light sleeper so I usually lose sleep! Especially if the pups ask to go out more than 3x in the night. If I am doing an overnight booking for you, I can do up to 2 drop-in visits during the day. Most of my overnight clients book me for 12pm and 5pm drop-ins which include feeding lunch or dinner, and most importantly allows the pups to go out every 4 hours. Every time I come for a drop-in I spend at least 15-30 minutes with the pet, feed if necessary, and the fee is $30.
