Active dogs wanted!

Pet care experience

Does your dog like to party hard outdoors? So do we! I have a 6-year old dog who is very friendly with other dogs and loves to enjoy the sights in San Francisco. Both of us go daily to off-leash parks and would love to take your socialized pooch with us. This setup is ideal for working and sporting dogs (your Labs, Golden Retrievers, Doodles, Poodles, Pointers, Foxhounds, Pitbull mixes, and the like). This is about having fun and getting tired! This may not be fun for couch potatoes, though. Why do I charge more than many other sitters? Because I offer an outstanding level of attention and dedication. Your dog (my guest) is my priority. You will get as many pictures and videos as you like. You will see what your dog is doing and why s/he goes back home tired. I am available to you via text whenever you need me. I follow the dog guardians' instructions meticulously. Is your dog allergic to treats? Then no treats for you, buddy! Is your dog allowed on furniture. Jump on, my friend! You can even sleep on my bed. (I wish I had been able to take a picture of Jackson together with a Viszla, an Australian Shepherd, and a Pitbull sharing the bed with me--priceless!) But I also enforce house rules, such as not allowing guests on the furniture or bed, or sleeping in a crate. I can be as permissive as you allow me to be. YOU establish the parameters. What can you expect from us? -- A lot (and I mean a lot) of time with your dog. I work odd hours from home so I am at home almost all day (with some unlikely but nonetheless possible errands or other small commitments). -- If your pooch is active s/he will be out for two hours, at least. A minimum of two walks/play times a day (it usually is four or five, but two of them are 10-minute potty breaks, one of them before bedtime). At least one of them an extended visit to an off-leash park. We can talk about the parameters of these outings (off-leash? on-leash? beach? park? swimming?). -- A friendly dog with whom to play or just hang out. Jackson is very friendly, very well-socialized, and plays very well with other dogs. He is an energetic dog who likes to run, chase the waves, and climb hills. If your dog does too, we'll be a great match. I have much experience with dogs, having had two, having undergone a lot of training with both of them, and going to parks daily and learning dog behavior cues. If this sounds good to you, contact me. I'd love to meet your dog and you and have a chat regarding your pooch's likes and needs. I also encourage you to check out the pictures of my past guests. You can see what sort of places we go to--and how much fun they are having. Most of those stays have been weekend-long, so the diversity of locations for each visit indicates how much time outdoors we spend and how I am to make it interesting by taking dogs to different environments. What I do ask is that your dog be completely housebroken. To make sure that is the case, I won't be able to take care of dogs under a year old. I also cannot host dogs that bark excessively or bay, at the behest of my neighbors. About this sitter: After many years of living in New York City, my dog Jackson and I have moved back to the Bay Area. I have been a university professor for many years but I am now changing careers. My work is mostly done at home, so I spend a lot of time with Jackson and will do the same with your dog. Why I love dog sitting Forever. When I was a child we had a Dalmatian and two wire-haired fox terriers. As an adult, I had Kolya, a wonderful Golden Retriever who gave me 11 years of joy. Currently, my cute mutt Jackson is keeping me busy. I wouldn't have it any other way. I have volunteered briefly at a dog shelter walking dogs (and it can be hard when dogs are not properly socialized) and walked dogs for a while in New York City. Meet my pets The apartment is large. It is on a second floor (stairs). There is no yard. About my yard No backyard. My apartment is large with plenty of room for relaxation and spreading out. Potty breaks are frequent. My experience administering medication Yes. I haven't had to administer shots to a dog so far, but I will gladly do so. Pills and liquid medicine are not a problem. Ointments, you bet. I have plenty of experience. I can brush the dog's teeth if the dog is used to that.

I loved getting the pictures and updates of Luna each day. When she came home she passed out I've never seen her so tired, which for a Husky is saying a lot.

Another wonderful experience. Elisa is perhaps the only person we trust with our Greyhound Margot! She is so very accommodating, even when we ask her at the very last minute. Thanks!

Elisa's fantastic! She kept us updated with pictures and videos throughout our dog's stay and was incredibly helpful when our travel plans kept getting upended.

Information Elisa L. would like to know about your pet

I focus on active dogs, because I like going to dog parks, the beach, and green spaces where dogs can really expend their energy doing what they love. I love toy dogs and would welcome your pooch of any size who doesn't drool too much (sorry, St Bernards and Mastiffs). He or she should enjoy be friendly to other dogs, not be destructive, and love being outdoors playing, because that's where the dog will get tired.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks Assuming your dog is reliable off leash, I would bring him or her to our usual spots. A favorite of mine is Upper Douglass Park, a large fenced dog park with a good dog and guardian population. I go often to Crissy Field (I prefer it to Fort Funston because the sand is cleaner), and recently we have been going to McLaren Park. If your dog likes to swim, I'd like to know, because Crissy Field and McLaren would be perfect. Bernal Heights Park is also an option. It's perfect for walks at dusk. I usually take the dogs there at around 6 pm for their last long walk (not the last of the day). And sometimes, when the stars align, we get to go over the Bay Bridge to Point Isabel (doggy heaven) and other East Bay Regional Parks. One of the walks will be an on-leash stroll around Noe Valley. It's important that I know whether your dog can handle being on a car. Most of the places I go to require that I drive. However, there are options we can discuss. Your dog's sleeping arrangement Wherever he or she likes. The dog is welcome on my bed, on the couches (washable slipcovers), and carpet floors. A dog bed next to my bed, or in the living area, kitchen, are all possibilities. If your dog is destructive or is an adolescent, I would ask that your dog slept in her/his crate. I want to be able to monitor the dog's behavior at all times. Time I'll spend with your dog 20-24 hours (including sleep, of course).
