Hi, I'm Elana! I have 13+ years experience leading groups of up to 8 dogs on off-leash pack adventure hikes, and providing overnight sleepovers in my home or house-sitting for clients. I provide hikes because dogs thrive in an environment where they can really be themselves and live their canine lives to the fullest. I also really enjoy the overnights as it helps deepen the bond I have with the dogs I trust to hike with me. My clients have long relied on me with the care of their family pets and I have a ton of great references.

What can I say about Elana other than 'THE BEST' pet sitter, dog walker, pack hike leader I've ever known. Elana is meant to be with animals and she handles my challenging Sammy beautifully (he doesn't love everyone, but he loves Elana for sure)! She's been with us for over 9 years. Elana has a kind, peaceful and very effective leadership style with animals. She knows exactly what to do with different types of animal behavior, and has studied dog training. You can't go wrong with Elana. She's a gem.
I couldn't recommend Elana more strongly for anyone's pet care needs. Elana truly cares about the well-being of the pets she watches. I know that our dog will be safe and loved when she is in Elana's care, which is all I could ever ask for. We've worked with Elana continuously since 2019. In addition to taking our dog on daily off-leash hikes, Elana has also watched our pup for extended periods of time while we were on vacation, taking our dog into her home. We felt such peace of mind knowing that our dog was being cared for by Elana. During one vacation, Elana was gracious enough to agree to watch our dog even though she had her own vacation planned. She took our dog on vacation with her to a beautiful lake, and sent us daily pictures of the adventures she and our dog had. She was even able to get our dog - who previously had not liked water - to play in the lake! I think our dog had more fun than we did during that vacation!
Elana and the Action Dog team are the absolute best. Our dog Finnegan has been hiking with Action Dog for 2 years - he started when he was 6 months old. Finnegan absolutely loves the pack hikes, loves his dog-buddies and loves Elana (as well as all of the Action Dog team). We have also boarded Finnegan with Elana multiple times, and Finnegan has such a blast that he is sad to leave her when dropped off (we try not to take it personally!). He comes home from his hikes & boarding - happy, tired and well-behaved. I HIGHLY recommend Action Dog.

I have a fenced in yard and there is a doggy-door that is available for outdoor access when needed. I am attentive and in tune with dog body-language and will do my best to keep your pets comfortable in a new environment when staying with me. We go on daily walks and hikes if this is included in the arrangement. If housesitting for you, I will do my best to maintain your pets' routines that they are used to so having a new person in their home is not stressful for them, and care for your home as if it were my own.

And it's important to let me know if your dog has any behavioral or personality traits that could affect how they relate to people and other dogs in the environment. Any fear or anxieties, reactivity to certain places, people or things, anything that would be helpful information for me to know. The more info the better!
A typical day
Engaging dogs in physical and mentally stimulating play and training games so they have a rewarding and satisfying visit with me is my goal! We love our long hikes in our beautiful Santa Fe open spaces and trails, and cozy cuddle time at home after a long romp.

Availability
Family pets thrive with a stable routine - I follow all care instructions to ensure that pets are as comfortable as they can be, and any anxiety associated with their family being out of town or having a new caretaker in their home is minimized. I try to make all my clients' pets feel comfortable and at ease with me, especially when their routines have changed for any duration of time.
