Pet care experience

* I especially love caring for rescues and specialize in watching multiple pets. * Experience matters. Unexpected situations can come up and it’s important that whoever is watching your pets responds quickly and uses wisdom. Pets can be attacked when out on a walk, can break through a gate, a leash can slip and they get “free” or choke on food. What your person carrying for your animals does in those immediate seconds following an unexpected event is vital. Like a lot of people on this app, I have grown up with dogs and cats. I love animals, especially dogs dearly and have thoroughly enjoyed my opportunities to serve families by watching their fur babies while they’re away. A little bit of my background: My first dog was a white rescue puppy that I named Kavik (after a book where the dog is named Kavik, of course!). My second dog was a toy Maltese Poodle I brought back with me from a 3 week mission trip in Monsey, New York that was named Jete’. My mom loved dogs so we always had dogs. I remember at least two litters of puppies in our kitchen and hallway (which my dad loved, lol). Just kidding. He is still not a dog lover but he has grown to appreciate them more over the years because of how much my mom loves them. We had a Siberian Husky, a Shepherd mix, a terrier and several rescue dogs over the years (in addition to my personal dogs). It was a busy home! When I was in college looking for ways to earn extra cash, I got started dog sitting for friends of friends. Petsitting for friends and family continued after I graduated and moved back to Illinois to start teaching because I had really enjoyed it during my college years. Some fun facts about me: - I was a full time junior high teacher for 16 years, but currently tutor and teach science online. - I’m 3rd oldest in a family of 10. - I’m not married and no kids. - I DO love being an auntie (and claim favorite auntie status whether it’s true or not!). - I’m a health and fitness nut so will most likely be cooking if I stay at your house. Odds are very high I’ll bring my kettle bell and yoga mat, lol. - I work a lot from my phone or devices so I’m not just scrolling if you see me on my phone. 🥰 - I love to write and read! - I’m a conservative, patriot and love Jesus. - I don’t actually live in Mokena! - I am transitioning to a remote work lifestyle (teaching / tutoring online) so I create my own schedule.

Eileen was wonderful with our 4 pets (2 dogs, 2 cats) while we were on vacation. She took great care of them and the house, and it was so reassuring to know we didn’t have to worry about them while we were gone. I’d highly recommend her to anyone and will definitely use her again in the future! Thanks so much, Eileen!

This is now the 2nd time Eileen has watched our dogs and each time she's gone above and beyond of her duties (ie pulling the batteries to a sounding fire alarm, washing bed sheets and bringing in the delivered dog food) all of which certainly weren't asked for but she had no problems doing. Highly highly recommend and will be booking her again as long as she wants to return :)

Safety, trust & environment

I focus on building a trusting relationship with whatever pet I am watching. It’s important that he / she trust me and usually that is created through talking to the animal, treats, affection / petting and then leaving the animal alone to adjust to a new person and come to me in his / her own time. I find it very fulfilling to get an anxious dog to “smile” or come out of his / her shell!

Information Eileen D. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know what kind of treats and toys he/she enjoys, favorite activities, grooming and medication expectations as well as any allergies. I also want to know his / her typical routine and where he / she sleeps. Also please advise on foods to be avoided. If I'm walking your pet, it's helpful to know if he / she gets along with strangers and other dogs. Also, do you want me to reinforce any training words / procedures that you have already been teaching your pet?

A typical day

When I walked dogs in Chicago, I often took my regulars to a local dog park. Otherwise, we walked wherever the owners suggested I walk. In the suburbs, I find many dog owners have large back yards and let their dogs run in their back yard or they have me walk the dog around the block near their home. Sometimes they just want me to play tug a war / fetch with their dog! I am flexible and will work with the needs, temperament and habits of your dog. As for fun activities, it depends on what your pet likes to do! A lot of dogs like to play “fetch” with a tennis ball. Mostly, I find both dogs and cats respond to lots of petting and walks (for dogs). Depending on the breed, cats respond more to play with cat toys, brushing and petting … but sometimes want to be left alone. Sometimes cats just want to know someone is nearby. It really depends on the needs of the pet because personalities can be so different so I rely on the owners to give me the “inside scoop” on their pet!

I work from home as a tutor / digital creator so as much as possible, I try to keep the schedule the same as it would be if you were home. Depending on my house sitting location, I may go to a gym in Orland and / or drive Uber for a few hours. On the weekends I often drive Uber. I am never gone more than 4-5 hours at a time and that is flexible depending on pet requirements.
