Active pet lover, owner, & sitter

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Drew and I am a Cal Poly Slo agricultural business student. I have been at home for the past year doing school online, while also caring for a recently rescued 2 year old German Shepard/Great Pyrenees mix. He has been my love and joy and although he was very poor-mannered when I got him, I have found training him with positive reinforcements on his basic obedience and on-leash skills to be very fulfilling. I hope to be able to help other dog owners with the basics if needed and to upkeep whatever routines are necessary in maintaining their pets healthy lifestyles. I have been around dogs since I was running around in diapers and have always loved all animals, no matter the size, breed, or background. My family has adopted/rescued 7 dogs throughout my life and in the past I have dog/cat sat for many neighbors, while also helping my mom take care of 3 dogs at once while in high school. Not to mention, my grandparents have 2 cats and I love them to bits!

Drew was fantastic with our two dogs! My dogs liked him right away and I could tell he was experienced and very comfortable with dogs. Sally was limping when we left, so it was a little tricky because Sally needed a short walk while Sophie, who is more high energy, needed a good run each day. He managed to get each dog’s needs met. He was also a great communicator, sending pics and asking questions that come up. He kept good care of the house and left it nice and tidy. Drew is a very responsible young man and I highly recommend him!

Drew has a natural love for all creatures and nature. He takes excellent care of our pets and house and I would highly recommend him. Long walks and hikes are part of his program if needed. He also does obedience work with dogs. Drew is also very responsible and tidy - you would be lucky to book him!

If given the opportunity to pet sit overnight, I am very meticulous about being clean and respectful. In regards to COVID, I wish to protect the health of those who I work for by wearing a mask and for them to respect my health as well. I have had both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, but would still like to be cautious. With other business regarding dog walking, I have many hiking trails, neighborhood loops, dog parks, and beaches nearby my house in perspective with what kind of walks one may being looking for. I also have a well-secured truck with doggy pads In the backseats for more safety and comfort when traveling. Additionally, I live with 2 other friendly dogs that would love to tire out your dog in my fenced backyard! Also, If asked to, I can always separate my dogs from yours, as I live in a two story house on the bottom floor with the backyard at my disposal.

Information Drew S. would like to know about your pet

The most important information to know about a dog ahead of time is the dog’s schedule, mannerisms, and drives. Knowing the dog’s schedule can help me better understand what I can do in order to achieve more consistency when caring for him/her/them. I strongly believe that consistency in a dog’s life creates more structure and less stress for any dog. As for better understanding a dog’s mannerisms, it can be helpful in avoiding uncomfortable situations for the dog, myself, and for others. Additionally, it can give me something to work on with the dog if needed. Lastly, knowing what drives your dog, such as with food, prey, or affection, can help me connect on a more mutual level with your dog when either sitting, or training if needed.

A typical day

My favorite place to go with my dogs is the Douglass Preserve. It is a great place to let my dogs truly be dogs, while letting them get the exercise and social experiences they need. Owning a German Shepard mix has required a lot of patience and exercise, so I have adapted my schedule to fit his needs, just like I expect to do with any other breed. Tucker’s Grove is also a great place to go for a hike, with the trail being so flat and safe, not to mention there is a fenced dog park at the beginning of the trail if there is extra energy to be spent! I also can cater to other pets that are not as social, whether it be chilling on the couch, or going for neighborhood walks.

As a full-time student, my schedule does currently revolve around school. Although, given the situation with the pandemic, I am very flexible with when and where I can work. The majority of my classes are asynchronous and are all online, therefore I can work from different locations or finish schoolwork ahead of time when needed. The only mandatory times I will not be available, due to testing times, are Wednesdays from 9:10-10 am and Tuesdays from 3:10-4 pm. I have a picture of my schedule if needed.
