Vet Tech With Ten Years Experience

Pet care experience

love the sweet, fun loving, adventurous nature of dogs that make them wonderful companions. I am a pet sitter because I want to provide a warm safe environment while the owner is away. I believe that being a pet sitter in an owner's home provides the most comfort and familiarity for the dog. Another reason I love pet sitting is that I love meeting new four legged clients and establishing the strong bonds that can exist between dog and human. I currently have one dog and two cats. My other dog passed away a few years ago at the age of 13. I had her from birth. My current dog, Sawyer was a young rescue dog at the shelter where I worked. I also fostered many animals while I worked there for five years as an animal care technician and then as a senior lead. One of my two cats was originally a foster. I have been a veterinarian technician for five years at a 24 hour emergency hospital. I have worked with many dogs of all sizes and breeds. Many of my current pet sitting clients came from my contact at the vet hospital. I have an extensive medical background that I use in the care of dogs with special needs. I can give oral medications, administer fluids, express bladders for paraplegic dogs, give subcutaneous injections, and perform physical therapy range of motion exercises for dogs who have recently undergone orthopedic surgery. For overnight stays that are a week long my charge is $50 a night. This includes all evening, bedtime, midday walks/feedings as well. Part of my service includes basic home care like watering plants, taking the trash out for pick up, bringing in mail or running small errands that may be needed. I can guarantee staying overnight for 12hrs. For the days that I work I have can come mid day to provide a 30 minute walk. If you have any questions about my rates and services please don't hesitate to ask! I'm so excited to meet you both!

Drea was absolutely amazing! She was very attentive to our dogs' needs, provided medications, walks, lots of affection, and regular feedback throughout the visit. It was a long 2 week vacation while we were out of the country and for us, it was wonderful to know that our house and pets were in such great hands. We came back to 2 happy pups, something we rarely see especially after being away so long. Thank you, Drea!!

At first Drea was very responsive. She walked my dogs on two separate occasions. The third walk she informed me that she would need to cancel because she got called into work. She then cancelled all of the scheduled walks without notifying me, after I had already paid. She then failed to respond to any of my messages. She stated that my dogs were a pleasure to walk. It is unfortunate. Now I think she is irresponsible and unresponsive.

Drea was excellent. She kept us up to date everyday, Finn was happy when we returned, she was responsive to our questions and concerns, and we felt great comfort that Drea has worked with animals as a professional for many years. We can only say positive things about her and we would definitely hire her again. Thank you Drea for taking such good care of our animals!

Information Drea S. would like to know about your pet

I have absolutely no breed restrictions since I have worked with all breeds. I am aware that brachycephalic breeds ( Boston terriers, English bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs) or prone to airway restrictions and easily overheat in the summer. Knowing that I would modify my walk schedule to be more frequent but shorter. I would want to know about special needs, medical and behavior. When I first meet my canine clients I instantly make myself smaller by bending down and hunching over in a non threatening manner. I do not give direct eye contact but side glances since direct eye contact will be seen as a challenge. Once a canine client approaches and feels more comfortable with me I will offer a treat with the owner's permission. I would ask the client about their dog's likes and dislikes. I would want to know how the dog likes to be mentally stimulated in order to prevent destructive behavior, and what would be the dog's favorite toys, favorite paths while walking, etc.

A typical day

I work as a vet tech, so I work my dog sitting around that schedule. To the best of my ability, I will keep your dog on their accustomed schedule. I will feed and exercise them according to your instructions. I also like to stick to the walks and parks the dog is already familiar with.
