Exceptional Care For Your Pet

Pet care experience

I have been caring for animals for 36 years. Over the years all of our dogs and cats have been rescues and have ranged in age from 4 months to 16 years old and many have had special medical needs. Medical conditions I have experience with handling include Ectopic Ureter surgery (successful), knee surgery, eye surgery, hip surgery and on and on. I am a past president of Golden Retriever Rescue Education and Training (GRREAT) and also past Vice President and Education Coordinator for GRREAT. I have fostered dozens of dog over the years many of which had already been in 2, 3 or more homes. I have participated in many obedience courses with just about every dog we have had to include basic obedience to more advanced training. I have three dogs: a 13-year-old Golden Retriever, 6-year-old Golden Retriever, and a 2-year-old Chocolate Lab/German Shorthaired Pointer. They’re all very friendly and love to meet new friends! We’ll definitely have a great time together getting into all sorts of fun activities. Communication is one of the most important aspects of any stay. I’m always very responsible and will always follow owners’ instructions and keep on a regular routine (if provided). Additionally, I like to send regular communication to owners with photos showing what a great time their dog is having. Finally, I’m punctual with my responses and will answer any and all questions in very quick fashion, and will of course be on time for appointments. I typically like to schedule meet and greets at the place most comfortable for the dog. Once an introduction has taken place, I always get down on the floor or ground to become more familiar with a dog so we can get familiarized with one another more quickly. I typically enjoy larger breeds better because I have always had large dogs but comfortable with any size or breed. During a meet and greet, I like to gather as much information as possible, and will need to know what or if any medical issues are present, how your dog interacts with other dogs, how they react when eating, how they react to certain types of play (some like to play tug and some do not or won’t easily give up, for example). When I play with pups, I like working on training and obedience but not to long as dogs tend to get bored. My guys like to play fetch and go for walks. We do spend a lot of time dock diving but it is only for dogs that love to do that. One of my guys is not into dock diving and I would NEVER force any dog to do anything it does not want to do. My guys love to go for rides in the car so we do that quite a bit. My free time is usually spent with my pups, since I just love spending time with them.

Doug was great! I was a little nervous leaving Milo overnight for the first time but as soon as I met Doug and his wife I felt so much better. Milo had a blast and was so comfortable in the home he almost didn’t recognize me :) loved our experience and would 100% use Doug again!

Doug and Becky took very good care of my puppy. It was the first time I used Rover and was nervous about leaving him with a stranger but Doug and Becky allayed my apprehensions after I met them and it was clear when I picked Tucker up he had a great time with them and their dogs! I will definitely use them again.

Selkie enjoyed her stay with Doug and his pups! Doug really seems to have a good instinct for how dogs interact, and is careful to make sure everyone is comfortable and safe, including ensuring that they take breaks from play to avoid overheating and exhaustion. Still, Selkie got plenty of playtime, and we got plenty of photos. Communication was good, and Doug was flexible about exact drop-off and pick-up times.

Absolutely fantastic. Our quarantine puppy grew to be very large and very shy, which is a tough combination. Doug and his wife are expert and patient dog people. They knew what to expect from her and their three great dogs gave her the socialization she needed. I was completely confident in them. 12/10 would book again.

Information Doug B. would like to know about your pet

Some things I like to learn ahead of time: Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? What’s your preferred method of communication? Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? What’s the best way to spoil your pup? Guest pups MUST be crate trained for times we are not home.

A typical day

Upon getting up, we’d immediately let the pup out for bathroom break (or walk if no fenced area) before breakfast time (depending upon your instructions) and then head out for a walk. After a cool down period after eating (at least an hour so pup does not have issues such as bloat), we’d have some play time together. After some rest and quality down time together, we’d head out for another walk as need be and continue that schedule throughout the day. Of course, I’m always happy to follow your instructions as related to any given schedule or regimen.
