Donna's Dog House

Pet care experience

For many years, Dan and I have loved and cared for so many animals the list seems to be endless. From our very first rescue puppy from Dallas Animal Services in the very early 70's (Dallas called it "The Dog Pound" back then) to our current pups, they are as important to our lives as any family member. Though we've shared our home primarily with dogs, our list includes many fresh and salt water aquariums. In addition to our cuddly cockatoo, Melvin, we had the pleasure of living with several cats, a gerbil and a gecko we inherited when our daughter first left to live on her own. Both of our kids are career Army and we’ve been babysitters for their dogs (and sometimes kids!) during their deployments. Our current “baby’s” include 2 dachshund mix rescue puppies. Augie & Freeway. We also have 3 big koi fish and a friendly but noisy bullfrog in our koi pond out back. We limit ourselves to sitting 2 puppies at a time, and we also prefer smaller breeds. We love 'em all but there are inherent challenges to keeping too many, and too many sizes. The big guys have just as big of a heart as the small ones, but size is the king and we don't want smaller ones getting squashed during playtimes. Our puppies have free access from the house to the secure, fenced and walled backyard via a pet door. They consider themselves house puppies, but they split their days between the backyard and the house. We have an abundance of shaded areas in the back with plenty of interesting nooks and crannies for dogs of average size. As we are close to Lake Dallas, when it's play time, occasionally we visit the lake parks with our puppies, but more often, we go to a local super nice dog park to romp and socialize with other dogs. For exercise, we make daily walks to a park about a mile and a half away as long as the weather permits. For treat time we keep healthy, tasty items for our puppies and guests, even some home made. One of their favorites are frozen bouillon ice cubes. They really get a kick out of them and they have less fat & calories than store bought treats. PLEASE NOTE: Even though we are very flexible in our pick-up and drop-off times for daycare, please have your puppy picked up no later than 6:00 pm unless you've made previous arrangements. If you can not make it by 6:00 pm, an additional $10 charge will be incurred.

Donna and Dan are wonderful dog sitters. My little Stella was so comfortable there it seemed she didn't want to leave. Stella normally only eats at home, but she ate at with Donna and Dan. Pretty Amazing! I will definitely use them again and would recommend them to anyone with small dogs.

Amazing and wonderful. This is THE place for your little dog. This is our first time using Donna's service and recommend her and her husband highly. Our dog is an only child and still puppy in nature with the issues that go with that. They handled him beautifully and we plan to use no other sitter ever. Sammy came home happy and that shows a great deal. Thank you Donna!
