ASPCA-Trained Pet Caretaker
Pet care experience
In addition to having my own dogs throughout most of my life (I currently have a Border Collie mix, a Corgi, and a cat), I worked for the ASPCA doing animal transport which required training in dog handling and walking. My wife is a veterinarian so I've learned a lot, plus her advice is just a phone call away. My specialty is pet-sitting. I am clean and conscientious, respectful of your home, and attentive to your pet’s needs and care. The care each pet receives is based on their specific personality and needs. I enjoy interacting with dogs and cats, giving them lots of attention, play, and activity. I have a great deal of experience taking care of geriatric dogs and catering to their unique needs, including giving medication. I have my own freelance business so I am in charge of my own schedule. I can also perform house-sitting duties: checking mail, watering plants, taking out trash, etc.
Reviews
Don was great! We have not left our dog with many people for overnight stays but felt totally comfortable with Don. Charlie is super energetic and he made sure she got lots of exercise. He was very communicative with his updates and sent fun pics. When we needed him to stay an extra night at the last minute, he was very accommodating.
After 7 years Don is the best sitter we have found. Our #1 go to cat sitter.
Don was fantastic and really helped Bella who was very anxious walking down the street. Definitely recommend!
Don was great and flexible to take care of our cats over a long holiday vacation. We trusted him fully with Pants and Boots

Information Don C. would like to know about your pet
Some things I’d like to learn about your dog that we can talk about in a meet-and-greet: - What’s your preferred method of communication (text/email/phone)? - Does your dog have any health issues that need to be tended to (dietary restrictions, medicine, behavior triggers)? - Do you have a vet nearby for emergencies? - Is your dog used to a specific schedule for eating and going out? - What does your dog do well around? What does your dog try to avoid? - Is your dog friendly with other dogs? - What type of play does your dog enjoy? - What’s the best way to spoil your dog?
A typical day
Activities when I dog-sit with depend on the dog. We can go on walks in the neighborhood, play with toys at home, hang out and watch TV, etc. My dogs love laying up against me while I sit on the sofa working on my laptop. Once I am familiar with a dog I also enjoy taking dogs to a park or dog run for some off-leash time playing ball or playing with other dogs. This, of course, depends on whether this is something the dog would enjoy.
