Pet care experience
All my life I've been comfortable interacting with pets of all shapes and sizes. Growing up in a family with labrador retrievers, I keenly understand how to care for and manage dogs with lots of energy (and strength!). Spending time with many dogs over the years has helped me develop a strong understand of a dog's body language and demeanor when they're interacting with me or another animal. Whether I'm around my own dog or someone else's, I'm always thinking of the dog's comfort level first. This has helped me successfully take care of the dogs of friends, family, and colleagues.

Derek is great with our dogs. They are both a bit nervous around new people and they liked him right away. He is patient, kind, and communicative. We would have him back anytime!
Derek has been a wonderful dog sitter for our family! Yeti, our 50 lb yellow lab mix, has special requirements for care due to a sensitive pancreas. Which essentially results in constant vigilance of what she eats in a day as to not make her pancreatitis flare up. Derek always followed our routine to a T making sure that Yeti was loved and cared for while we were away. He would send us photos to keep us updated and spoiled her with lots of walks. It was always a comfort knowing he was there at night with her keeping an eye on the house and helping Yeti through some of her separation anxiety. As a house guest Derek was extremely respectful of our space making sure the house as clean or cleaner than we left it!
Derek has taken care of my family’s dogs and roommate’s cat on many occasions. My roommate and I know that her cat loves Derek more than either of us, he’s naturally very good with even difficult and anxious pets! Derek also worked with me at a museum/rehabilitation center and always treated our animal ambassadors with the upmost care and respect. He’s amazing with animals and will no doubt be a perfect caregiver and friend to any pet!

It's important for me to know the dog's temperament, quirks, and range of acceptable activities. The last thing I'd want to do is put a dog in an uncomfortable situation because I made an incorrect judgement about its demeanor, or because I lacked the necessary information to care for it well.
A typical day
I do what I think matches their families' expectations of acceptable activity. Going on walks, playing fetch, hour-long ear scratches---whatever both the family and dog communicate to me as something that they enjoy and are comfortable doing! I'll even go on jogs!

Availability
I'm a full-time graduate student with open Mondays and weekends. Tuesdays are busy all day but my evenings all week after 4:30 PM are completely free, as well as morning before 8 AM.
