Midday Care for Working Fur Parents

Pet care experience

I am available for dog, cat, and bird sitting. 🐶🐈🦜 I have owned several dogs; a bichon frise, a beagle/cocker spaniel mix, and currently a miniature Australian Shepherd named Grace and a lab/catahoula leopard mix named Brazu. I bathe, feed, walk, and administer medications to them. I have experience with using a pinch collar to discourage aggression towards people/dogs, and to encourage heeling during walks. I use positive reinforcement to encourage heeling, sitting, "stay" command, etc. by using training treats and lots of praise. More on pinch collars: When I adopted Brazu, who was found as a stray in Terre Haute, he was very aggressive on walks and would pull hard on the leash to the point where it was dangerous for me to walk him. I took him to First Friends K-9 in Fishers for a training session. They taught me that pinch collars are not harmful at all to the dog and merely "pinch" the skin on the neck, stimulating what the dog would feel if another dog was playing with him. The pinch gets the dog's attention. The pinch collar transformed my dog's behaviors on walks. If your dog is pulling on walks, I will not be able to take him/her on walks unless you are open to purchasing and using a pinch collar. It is dangerous for the dog and for the person walking when the dog pulls on walks, because 1) the person could fall, 2) the dog could get loose and run over by a vehicle. More on my dog Brazu: When I met Brazu at an adoption event, he came right up to me and sniffed my essential oils diffuser necklace and I fell in love with him right then and there. He was very thin (65 lbs) because he was a puppy and still growing, but also because he had gotten parvo. I met him at his very first adoption event, after he had been fighting for his life and overcame the parvo. Brazu had a limp, and they had found him as stray and named him "Mugs." I did not take him home with me at the time of the adoption event, but checked the Terre Haute Humane Society every day, ok several times a day 😂 for the next week. The following weekend, since I couldn't get him off my mind, I went and adopted him and changed his name to Brazu. Brazu loves his walks, he loves putting his nose on my arm to get my attention, and he loves doing the "Brazu shuffle," which is moving towards me and away from me with a really intense look in his face. The "Brazu shuffle" usually occurs when I ask him if he needs to go outside. Brazu also loves food, a little too much at times (kind of like me). He is a sneaky little mister and does it when I'm caring for my disabled daughter. He usually waits until he knows I am doing her g-tube feeding or changing her, and then "Mommy is busy, let me see if the crockpot is within reach!!!"

Deanna did an awesome job taking care of our pets. Was extremely helpful brought in our Amazon packages and adjusted the schedule to help us stay on vacation an extra day.

PICTURES: I think my favorite part of my job is taking photos of your ADORABLE pets!!! A little bonus I like to throw in for new clients is getting a few amazing photos of your fur babies printed for you to keep. NO ESCAPEES: I am very careful to make sure there are no escapees. I have never had a pet escape when I am sitting. I make sure the dogs/cats are away from the door when I open it, and if they're right there, I bend down and put my hand out towards the pet as I sneak in quickly. If you have a fenced in yard, I always stay outside with your dog while he/she is using the bathroom and playing outside. I like to know ahead of time if your pet has had a history of escaping, because I need to know where any openings are in the fence, or if neighbor kids sometimes open your fence gate, etc. I like to put a plan in place if your pet were to be a "repeat offender"/escapee while they're in my care. ALARM SYSTEMS: I have only once tripped an alarm system because I didn't put in the code in time. I was able to explain to the reporting officer what happened and I called my client right away so they would know all was well. There was another situation where a client forgot to turn their alarm off when they left for vacation. I was able to get a hold of them through the Rover app phone system and shut it off with 30 seconds to spare. I felt like I was in a suspense film when that happened.

Information Deanna W. would like to know about your pet

During our meet-and-greet I will get to know your dog's favorite things to do, and if your dog has any special needs, like medicine that needs to be taken. I will find out if your dog has a history of aggression, escaping, property destruction, or other behavioral issues and how you manage those. I will also discuss any training techniques you may be using with your dogs to maintain consistency with those.

A typical day

My past clients like the photos I take of their fur friends. I love to capture cute moments! If you let me and we arrange ahead of time, I can take your dog in my car to local parks for nature hikes. I have a tennis ball launcher that I can use with your dog if you have a large, fenced in area. I found out about this amazing toy through one of my Rover clients, and my dog Brazu loves his tennis launcher and lets me "borrow" it to use with other dogs.

Availability

I AM AVAILABLE FOR DOG, CAT, AND BIRD SITTING Monday through Saturday. Sundays I have limited availability. I have a huge heart for God and people. I am a worship leader at our church where my husband is the pastor. I love making your pets happy! I am available to take your dog outside for potty time while you’re away, change kitty litter, feed and give them water, give them snacks, etc. I also can work on consistency with any training techniques that you're working on with them, and I will play with your best friend(s). I can walk your leash-trained dog, and if they’re still working on leash training, I can use the first few visits to train them on the leash. Any extreme storm or icy weather conditions will be rescheduled for walks.
