Growing up, my parents loved animals and nature and passed that respect and love on to me and my brothers. We always had at least two dogs and two cats in the house. When I was in elementary school, they allowed our female basset mix to have a litter so we could experience the miracle of birth. In college, I worked part-time first as a groomer and then later promoted to vet tech for a veterinarian. And yes, when in kindergarten and asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I responded, very confidently, "a dog!"
