Responsible dedicated dog lover

Pet care experience

I’m an enthusiastic and responsible sitter, with years of pet care experience. I have a dog of my own, Owen, a Wheaten terrier, who is about 9. I have somewhat extensive experience in non-professional dog sitting. I have had 2 roommates with dogs (Pebbles the Chihuahua and Clint the Hound/Shepard mix) who had to go out of town pretty frequently. Instead of putting them in a kennel it was easy enough to just leave them with me (on numerous occasions) as I've had experience with dogs for the last 15 or 16 years. I'm very thorough in keeping the dogs' owners up-to-date on their status. As a dog is almost like that person/couple's child, it is imperative to keep them at ease, letting them know everything is alright with the pup here on the home front. Now available full-time, day or night, weekday or weekend! References available upon request.

Dave was fantastic with our puppy Dobby! He was super attentive and sent pictures and video and we really appreciated his time and communication. Would definitely re-book for our next in-house boarding needs!

Information David G. would like to know about your pet

My policy around meet and greets is to let the owners pick the location, since they know where their dog(s) will feel more comfortable meeting someone for the first time. I will ask the owner beforehand if the dog has any issues with getting pet by new people, or issues with any kind of petting (maybe they have a bad back left leg or something). If they are good with new people I'd essentially greet the dog the only way I know how- with a punch of petting and hellos and if there is a treat to be doled out, I would gladly do the doling. I do not have any breed preferences, but in terms of what I'd want to know about the dog, usually that includes 1) Walk times/frequency 2) Behaviour around other dogs and children 3) Any usual walk routes to take/avoid 4) Feeding times/policies, same for treats 5) Allowed on the couch? Bed? I have no preference in terms of breed!

A typical day

Since dogs are very much creatures of habit, I would defer to your dog’s routines here- when are they usually out? Do they go to dog runs/the park? Do they like to play fetch or tug of war, or just lie around and take it easy? Depending on the answers, that's how we'd spend our days. Perhaps a trip to the park in the morning, a nice long stroll in the evening and a quick pre-bed walk with plenty of belly rubs and taking it easy in between walks. Where we will go together depends on where we are in the city! If we're in Brooklyn and they are good with other dogs, we'll head up to Prospect Park. There's a dog run on 5th street (near where I grew up) I used to go to as a kid, so I know when it gets popping. In the same vein, if your pup isn't the greatest with other dogs, we could still go to the park/dog run, albeit just at different times so that they wouldn't be going crazy seeing a million other dogs. Most weekends I take my pooch, Owen, up to the park in the morning when there are plenty of dogs socialising. Granted they are cool with other dogs, your dog would be more than welcome to join! Otherwise, when the weather is nice there are a bunch of outdoor places to eat that allow you to bring dogs, so if I were going for a brunch for an hour-ish, it may be nice to bring the pups along.
