Pet care experience

On the path toward opening up a dog daycare, I've been privileged to be a dog walker, sitter, and volunteer at Friends For Life, the animal shelter in the Heights. Being trusted to go in people's homes is not an honor I take lightly. Similarly, after teaching for 20 years while being a vice principal, I was trusted to take parents' children 1,200 miles away on multiple field trips to Washington, D.C., and Virginia. And dogs don't report back to their parents. So a dog walker and sitter carries that much more responsibility. For any organization I've been a part of, follow through, extreme care and honesty are the fundamentals I believe in. From cleaning kennels to walks and probably most importantly, sitting to chat and pet dogs who are hungry for attention and someone to trust, my whole spirit feels joy when I spend time with dogs.

David helped me out with walking my dog Roscoe after I had surgery and couldn't take him out. David was so kind and professional, and he is amazing with dogs - he and Roscoe were best friends as soon as they met! He made efforts to introduce himself calmly and politely to Roscoe during their first walk, and to take him to areas with lots of fun smells and sights every day. He always communicated his arrival time and wrote us detailed report cards with lots of cute doggie photos. I'd absolutely recommend David to anyone needing a dog walker or sitter - he has a great way with dogs and people!

David is phenomenal. My two pups and I did a meet and greet with him prior to booking to make sure it would be a good fit. You can tell he has experience the way he approaches new dogs and understands their minds. He is very thorough in making sure he has covered all points and any concerns you might have. David is very detail oriented, his report cards are like reading a very happy short story. I will be using him as my go to walker, highly recommend

David lives up to his awesome reviews He spent time actually making sure that our dog Jolene was comfortable with him during the meet and greats and was very flexible when we added a second foster dog to the mix. He gives us updates and is great to work with

Information David C. would like to know about your pet

No breed preferences though it’s good to know if the dog is reactive to other dogs or people. What are their likes and what causes anxiety? And what is the parent looking for in a dog walker? What adds joy to their dog will add joy to the parent. I love the details.

A typical day

I like to ask what their dog looks forward to so I know whether to bring a frisbee, tennis ball or simply enjoy the sunshine on our walk. Enrichment is important mental stimulation. This can include scavenger hunts with treats in toilet paper rolls or bunched up newspaper. Similarly, some dogs enjoy story time after a walk. For athletic dogs, I’m able to run 2-3 miles with parents who want more exercise for their baby. Door manners before walking out such as auto-sitting and “place” training are fun to teach as well if the parent is interested.
