Work from Home Dog Lover

Pet care experience

Dogs and I go way back to the days when I was a wee little thing crawling on my own four paws. Suffice it to say, I grew up with dogs. They're familiar pet friends to me, whimsical creatures of comfort whom I've grown to love throughout many phases and cycles of my life. Dogs and cats are indeed two very different breeds, and yet, there is something humane that connects them outside of their owners. They each carry their own flair, their own story full of emotional idiosyncrasies. I like to think we can learn a lot from them. The longer I've gone without a dog in my everyday life (there was always a dog in my family house growing up, and still to this day) the more I realize what an impact they've had on my mental well being. Though this wasn't always the case with cats, I've grown to admire them for their independence and nonchalance. They're cool and sassy and sometimes just as cuddly and warm as their counterparts. I've taken care of both dogs and cats for numerous friends, neighbors and family members since I was about 12 years old. I work in the wine industry as an assistant buyer and jane of all trades so to speak. My background is in writing, arts management and French (I speak French as well). What started out as an interest soon became a part time job, which then became a passion...and that's the short end of how I ended up in wine, at least for the time being. I always have something interesting playing on my speakers as my first love was, and still is, music. At the moment, I work primarily from home, so I love the idea of having a furry companion to pamper and take out on walks. I live 10 minutes from Prospect Park and about 7 minutes from the closest dog park, adjacent to the BK Library. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Looking forward to hearing from you! Warmly, Darby I currently work flexible hours mostly from home throughout the week, with my only day that I'm unavailable being Wednesday. Would love to have a furry companion to play with and walk to break up my work day. I adapt my methods depending on the type of home and dog I am dealing with. That said, I will give equal amounts of love to any pet I am caring for...if that means playing tug of war or fetch or simply being aware of their needs and giving them love through petting and outdoor time.

Darby was a gem! My dog has a bit of anxiety and needs some time to warm up to people - but Darby was the perfect companion! When I walked by her place days later, Elliot was dragging me over to it and sat down wagging his tail, hoping for another play date :) Thank you for your care!

Darby is an excellent sitter! She's prompt, communicative, kind, and conscientious, so we felt totally confident leaving our (emotionally needy) doggo with her. Darby provided great updates and was always available over text/Rover. She also left our house in spotless condition, which was very appreciated! I would definitely book Darby again, and encourage anyone reading this to do so as well. Highly recommend. :)

Darby is the sweetest woman. Not only is she a loving and caring caregiver with dogs, she is this way with every animal. Her peaceful and calm aura draws every animal to her and they instantly fall in love. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my little Harley (dog).

While I'm not able to give my undivided attention to your dog (I still have some work to get done) I will always be sure we're in good company, taking breaks to play, go on walks and give plenty of love to (petting, treats, etc).

Information Darby W. would like to know about your pet

How does your dog get along with other dogs? Does he/she have a tendency to be aggressive on the lease versus off the leash (say, in the park)? How hyper is your dog on a scale from 1-5 (5 being extremely hyper)? Is your dog house-trained?

A typical day

Play with toys, teach them tricks, take them on walks or maybe even runs if they're willing. I rise to the occasion and adapt my caretaking style to the type of dog they are. There's a wonderful dog park about 7m walking from my apartment in Crown Heights on the border of Prospect Heights.

Availability

Currently in transition so my schedule is flexible. I do have two roommates, one who works from home but keeps to her room and the other who works weekends and goes to grad school part time. I can walk dogs at least twice a day, adapting their schedule to mine. I sometimes have events or things in the evening that would keep me out of the house for a couple hours but I wouldn't leave the dog alone for more than that unless it's something we discuss for overnight stays.
