Hi! I am Darby. With about 5 years of experience in different facets of the dog industry, I understand how scary it is when you are looking for someone you trust with your pets. I am a 24 year old student at UT arlington, and live in an apartment with my girlfriend, and our little family of pets. I work as a Dog Trainer out of my home. I live and breathe animals, and have the privilege of getting structure my day fully around them. Funny enough, I’m really a cat person at heart, with a passion for dogs. Because I am so luckily to be able to work with animals from home, my schedule tends to be very flexible, and you will be able to rest easy knowing that your dog is in good hands. *Please note, because I am in an apartment, I do not have a yard and all dogs are leash walked for potty breaks.* I have worked with everything from Belgian Malinois to miniature poodles. I am well versed in management techniques for behavioral issues like anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. I am happy to exercise and work with any level of drive or energy, and am able to take care of everything from young puppies to special needs dogs. I am able to administer oral and IM medications, and have experience with many illness, especially dogs with epilepsy. I have knowledge of emergency wound care and response, and also have my vet, Roanoke Animal Hospital on call if need be. A huge secondary benefit of booking with me is that my girlfriend is a vet tech, and has incredibly vast knowledge about health across many species. We understand that your dogs are your family, and deserve to be treated with love and respect. We have two personal dogs that are kept separately from any client dogs, but are dog social. With my dogs I do many sports, and have a lot of training experience in this area. Animals are my passion and I hope that I get to work with yours soon!

My goal is to provide dogs with the most familiar and safe feeling environments I can. I always ask for information on your dogs normal schedule, so that I can come up with ways to show them consistency while you are away. I will respect and reinforce any rules you have at home, like not allowing dogs on furniture, or in certain spaces. In my clients home, I follow all the instructions I am given and will spend my time there with your pup meeting all those needs they have. I highly encourage meet and greets so that we can discuss in depth what your dog will need. In my home, dogs will be in crates at night, and when I’m away. When I’m at home, which is most of the time, your pup will be treated as if one of my own, and we will adjust as needed to help them feel safe, comfortable, and at home.

Are there any behavioral issues I need to be aware of (anxiety, reactivity, fear, aggression, resource guarding)? For safety of my own personal animals as well as clients, full disclosure is required.
A typical day
I love to see happy dogs! Every dog is different, so I always base activities on what they find fun to help get to know them, and build a relationship with them! Some dogs are content to sit on the couch and get pet on all day, some want to go to the park and sniff, others want to play for hours on end. I like to take walks through the nearby neighborhoods, and I also frequent bob Jones park.

Availability
My schedule is very flexible, as my life revolves solely around pet care! I take pride in being able to meet more than just basic needs like food, water, shelter. I spend each day rotating through different activities like training, enrichment, and play, to meet all the physical, emotional, and mental needs of dogs.
