Giving your pets TONS of attention

Pet care experience

When you place your trust in me to care for your pets, you get a reliable, trustworthy pet sitter who loves dogs, cats, and small animals and gives them comfort and close attention while you’re away. I communicate actively you before and during my sit, including sending as many photos of your pets as you’re willing to receive. :) The safety of your pets is my top priority, followed closely by the security and privacy of your home. Whether we’re in your home or out for a walk, your pets are safe with me. More than that, they’ll have a fun and enriching “staycation” with activities they love and as much affection as they prefer to receive. SERVICE AREA I offer overnight house sitting (stays of 3 to 14 nights) in the DMV. I have my own reliable car. I live in New Carrollton and often spend time in DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. I travel to select cities in the East Coast states throughout the year, with a special focus on Westchester County, New York. I find that traveling away from my home keeps the work fresh and engaging for me, and that positive energy passes on to your pets. I happily schedule virtual and in-person meet-and-greets in advance, so we can all agree that it’s a good fit before finalizing. ‘CAN BE LEFT ALONE’ PERIODS / 'POTTY BREAK SCHEDULE' For house sitting, I’m willing and happy to accommodate even the shortest “can be left alone” periods. If your pet needs more or less constant companionship or very frequent bathroom breaks, please let me know. I will be happy to provide a custom proposal that gives you the higher level of care you want to provide for your pets. CREDENTIALS I am a Fear Free Certified Pet Sitter, which means I have chosen to train in the latest evidence-based best practices for alleviating the fear, stress, and anxiety almost all dogs, cats, and small animals experience when their human family members are away from home. For your peace of mind, I am also certified in cat and dog first aid by PetTech and by the American Red Cross, and I am certified in pet CPR by both PetTech and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. MEDICATIONS I am happy to administer medication for most animals in the form of pills and for well-conditioned animals in the form of ear drops, eye drops, and topical ointments, and by oral syringe. I am not trained in administering injections. When you confirm any service with me, I will request your veterinarian’s information and information on the closest emergency vet with night hours. SEPARATION ANXIETY I am experienced in working with dogs who suffer from separation anxiety, and I use a number of techniques to help them adjust and to minimize their distress. I am comfortable and confident sitting dogs with mild to moderate separation anxiety. If your dog’s separation anxiety is at the severe end of the scale, I’ll want to converse with you so I can give you an honest answer about how good of a fit I am. MAXIMUM ‘HERD’ SIZE I am able to competently sit for a household with a maximum of 3 dogs. (If you’re a household with 4 or more dogs, I say bless you and encourage you to look to another caretaker.) If your family includes other animals besides dogs, I am happy to provide house sitting for a maximum of 6 total animals.

Book Daniel as fast as you can! He instantly felt like part of the family. He has a very calm energy about him that our little Spencer really responded to. He sent pictures daily, Our house was exactly as we left it, he started the laundry of his linens before leaving and left us a very thoughtfull thank you note. We will not hesitate to rebook Daniel if our schedules align.

HOW I CARE FOR YOUR PETS IN YOUR HOME Whenever I meet a new pet for the first time, I take my time. I kneel down to their level and let them approach me as they’re ready. I speak gently and calmly, offer treats, and let them take as long as they wish to. When it comes to overly enthusiastic dogs, with your approval and cooperation I typically help your dog keep “four on the floor” through positive reinforcement using treats and toys, following Fear Free best practices for pet sitters. What matters most to me is that any animal who is a member of your family feels safe, secure, and comfortable being in my care. Building that trust and comfort over time is one of my objectives, and with most pets another one is to burn off some of their excess energy with enriching activity that exercises the body and the mind. For dogs, I’m in favor of a walk in any weather that they’re ready for. In particularly bad weather, I’m prepared for indoor playtime that is appropriate to your space. Cats always get indoor interactive play multiple times a day. No matter what, you’ll get photos from me of your pets, at least once every day! I am fully insured and bonded as a pet sitter and house sitter. I also have a strong system for making sure your pets are cared for even if you are out of reach and even if I am ever delayed or injured. Ask me for details if you’re interested.

Information Daniel K. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog or cat has special needs that I can accommodate, and if they’ve ever had a seizure. I appreciate knowing to what degree your dog has received training -- do they follow commands and respect rules to a T, or is your house more free style? If you’re working on commands and behavior with them, I definitely want to know so I can add positive reinforcement. Finally — let me know if your pet has any food allergies and whether I have your permission to bring treats of my own or if I should use only treats you provide.

A typical day

A TYPICAL DAY I make sure your pets know they're being actively cared for and are the focus of my attention. With dogs, we'll go for walks and play enriching games. For cats and other pets, we spend time together playing or simply being in the same space, depending on what they’re used to and prefer. I also like to maintain the schedule your pets are used to when it comes to meal times and, for dogs, potty breaks and walk times. I even add more walks and outdoor time when it’s what’s best for your dog. With cats, I patiently earn their trust and base my level of interaction on their individual personalities. I scoop their litter at least once or twice each day. What’s important to me when I’m sitting your pet is your pet. My own personal entertainment preferences take a back seat. I’m a pet sitter, not a tourist. Your pets get all the attention, scritches, pets, rubs, hugs, playtime, and snuggles they want from me when I’m sitting them.

MY SCHEDULE I’m an early riser, so I’m a great for dogs who are used to going out early for a walk or bathroom break. On every house sit, I spend the vast majority of my time in your home, giving your pets interaction and company. I welcome house sits lasting from 3 to 14 days. I am able to begin a sit at any time of day. I always keep my schedule open and flexible at the end of each sit so that you can count on me to continue to care for your pets even if your return flight is delayed or your travel plans are otherwise disrupted.
