Pet care experience

UPDATE: We have fostered failed with VGSR! Due to this lifestyle change we will be only accepting repeat clients, but if you think we're a good fit we are willing to get together and work with you. Thank you all for entrusting us with your dogs, we really hope to continue a relationship with you! Hello! I'm Dana and I absolutely love big dogs, especially German Shepards since i've grown up with them majority of my life. I've always wanted to make a difference and rescue a dog that needed a home, regardless of what kind of work he/she needed. I like to think I can read dogs' body language very well, especially GSDs. I volunteer for Virginia German Shepherd Rescue and am always looking for volunteer opportunities. More importantly, with your pet(s) I am extra careful: better safe than sorry. I get it, I am very protective of my pets. I am very open to asking questions ahead of time so I have a clear understanding of how every dog/cat's personality is. My husband is probably even more of a dog lover than I am and will be with me majority of the time, playing with the doggos and taking them on walks with me. Please give me the opportunity to form a positive relationship with your dog! I work a regular day shift Mon-Fri but am willing to visit or provide care on my lunch break. So far I have boarded a few seniors, a deaf pup, big dogs (100lb+) and active rascals.

Dana and Beau were wonderful sitters for Riley! She can be a bit nervous but clearly felt loved and safe, settling in immediately. I’d recommend them highly. Thank you both!

Dana and Beau took excellent care of Mac. We got daily updates with pictures and videos. They asked lots of questions before to prepare to care for Mac, and our dog was happy and comfortable with them! Thanks!!

Dana and Beau were amazing with Winston. He can be difficult at the beginning but they were very patient with him. He warmed up to them very quickly and really enjoyed his stay with them. I got pictures and updates the whole time. 10/10 would recommend them!

We also have dog-safe wipes and bandages and a dog first aid kit for any emergencies and if you’re interested we also have calming remedies for any dogs with anxiety (calming ointment applied on the nose and CBD treats).

Information Dana & Beau H. would like to know about your pet

I adore German Shepards and have the most experience with this breed. I am also familiar with other larger breeds such as Labs. Before taking care of your beloved, I will ask many questions: are they okay having a door separating them from you (bathroom, bedroom, leaving the house, etc), any aggression with food, toys, bones, treats, etc., do they do well in car rides, are they an escape artist, do they cuddle, do they sleep on the bed, do they dig, do they pull on the leash aggressively, will they dash out the front door, do they have anxiety or any fears, will they not eat for the first day, and more.

A typical day

A few of many activities include: walks at First Landing Park or any other park, the beach, walks around town center or our neighborhood, Mt Trashmore (if crowds allow it), fetch, cuddles, and car rides! For short stays this varies on time and the weather.

I currently work a regular day job but am willing to take time from my lunch break to care for your best friend or cancel plans. On weekends we will fully commit to giving your friend all the attention they need and/or crave, but if we have plans or will be out of the house for a bit I will communicate that with you to ensure your pet is safe alone in the house for a short period of time.
