BEWARE!!! DO NOT USE THIS SITTER! She neglected my cat during the 10 days she was staying in my home looking after him. We had a meet and greet and everything seemed great. The first few days seemed to go well and she sent pictures which I appreciated. However, on the fifth day (exactly halfway through the stay) she texted saying the thermostat was having issues (which it never has before). She said she was going to leave my cat alone for the night because it was too cold in the house (she sent me a picture — it was set at a comfortable 68!). I asked her not to because I didn’t feel comfortable having my cat all alone for so long, especially when I’m paying someone to be with him. She said she wouldn’t but I have a strong feeling she left my house at that point and only came back to feed Tito because when I got home, the thermostat was at 38 degrees! Basically freezing!!! I felt horrible to think my cat had been living alone in that for days. As soon as we set it to a normal temperature, it started to go back to normal, making me think that the thermostat was never having issues at all and it was all an excuse. Without realizing crystal might not be taking the best care of Tito, I messaged her the day before we were supposed to come home to check in and let her know when to leave/where to put the key. Because I was getting home late, I asked that she wait until after Tito’s dinner (5:30ish PM) to leave so that he could eat and also wouldn’t be alone for too long. She said “ok.” I messaged her the day I was coming home at 2 PM to check in and ask if she could strip the bed and she told me she couldn’t because she had already left! But had never texted about it until I had reached out, which made me very apprehensive about believing anything she had said. I told her I didn’t appreciate her not letting me know and she said “her mom didn’t want her driving home in the bad weather.” The bad weather she was talking about was literal flurries of snow. Didn’t even cover the grass on my lawn. And we live in Colorado! But that’s beside the point; if you’re being paid for a job/service, you can’t just leave whenever you feel like it without informing the person who’s paying you. Extremely extremely unprofessional behavior. Even worse, when we got home my cat had no drinking water, despite my very clear instructions to refresh his water every couple days. It was obvious he had been drinking from the toilet for many days by how low the water was and how much of his hair was in the water. Further, his litter box was more full than I have ever seen it before. I explicitly said to clean it every day but there has to have been at least 5 days of dirty litter in there. The real cherry on top of everything was the overwhelming smell of pee (clearly not cat pee as that has a very distinct smell). After some searching, I found the source of the smell was a yellow pee stain on my duvet which had been put back in the duvet cover. I’m not sure if her dog peed on the bed or what but it was disgusting to come home to and I’m now in the process of washing it for the THIRD time to try to get the smell out. Overall, this was a horrible experience and I’m extremely upset with Crystal. I would not recommend her to anyone or trust her with any animal again. I’m sharing this so that other people and their beloved pets don’t have to go through an experience like this.
