Pet care experience
Hello! I am currently a biologist working from home but I’m missing my former work with animals, and would love to give flexible, expert care to your loved ones! I have a general passion for animal welfare with a background in a variety of animal care professions. Before working as a biologist, I’ve worked in wildlife rehabilitation, wildlife sanctuary husbandry and education at Mass Audubon, a veterinary assistant at an emergency vet hospital, and an assistant manager for a dog walking company. I have cared for dogs and cats, but I have more experience with dogs. Due to my experience as a vet assistant, I have cared for dogs and cats that are seniors, sick, or post-op that may need minor medical at-home care. Why I love dog sitting: Having a dog has always been a staple for my family. We had a family dog who lived to be 16 years old, and I had my own golden retriever who unfortunately died from cancer at 5 years old. Now I occasionally foster and pet sit since I don't have a fur baby of my own at this time.

Cristen Mathews is an excellent choice for this position. She has provided pet care as a sitter for my two cocker spaniels for years. With Fancy and Sassy, in which are my two pets, she has demonstrated compassion, patience, kind obedience training, and she manages to keep them on their routine schedules. Not only has she exhibited care for my dogs, she has also been a strong pet advocate for many pets throughout her life span. For example, she just recently completed an assignment as an intern rescuing wildlife pets. She will be an amazing choice for you and your pets. I couldn't think of a better person as a dog sitter!

I have a two-bedroom apartment occupied by my husband and I, so I have plenty of space for your pet to have their own room or to be crated (if crate-trained) if I have to step out temporarily. While I’m here, they will have full reign of my spacious apartment :) while we don’t have a yard I live near the Chestnut Hill Reservoir which is perfect for long, safe walks. I’m more than happy to care for your pet at your home if you’re more comfortable with your pet having a fenced yard.

I love all dogs, all shapes, sizes, and ages! My only issue would be that I would like to know beforehand if a dog is aggressive or very shy so that perhaps I could meet the dog first to make sure we get along.
A typical day
I live close to the BC’s campus and Brookline, which has lots of large green spaces and large fields that are pet-friendly! I'd love to take your pets to run around and play outdoors but also in my apartment on days of inclement weather. Lots of play time and fetch will be included inside and outside, with lots of affection and petting! I have experience with training so would love to assist with mental stimulation or training sessions as you see fit.
