367 Years Experience (in dog years)

Pet care experience

My K9 experience began during childhood with my family dog. Once out on my own, I chose a tough stubborn Rottweiler puppy that was extremely difficult to handle. I had promised myself that no dog would ever be trained using "old school" methods (in the movie “A Bronx Tale”, the question was asked, “is it better to be loved or feared?”) so with my growling, snarling 10 week old Rottweiler pup that only wanted things HIS way, I knew I wanted him to obey because he wanted to respect rather than fear me and so began my odyssey of 2-3 days a week of private lessons with multiple trainers and then group training (beginner, intermediate, advanced, personal protection) until we were finished in advanced off leash obedience and reliable in any environment, conditions or circumstances as my personal protection dog who was friendly, welcome and trusted by family and friends. I spent over 7 years with a kennel training with approximately 60+ active Police & Sheriff department’s K9s and their handlers creating real life scenarios "real time street training", bite work, obedience, tracking, etc), competed in AKC obedience trials, been a member and or leader of various types of working dog clubs, assisted others in earning their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification, helped resolve problems / behavioral issues and training for friends/ family/ club members, driven across the country with my dogs to attended countless seminars by local, national and international "experts" to learn new / progressive techniques and how to implement them with my dogs, I trained, competed and titled in multiple dog “sports” as well as much success in various personal protection dog competitions. My last working litter includes a Fly Ball Champion, a Service dog (the legal type) who is also active in SAR, a Police K9 / MEG (Metropolitan Enforcement Group) task force dog for a nearby department and I'm grateful to have found such good homes for all of them. I’m lucky and fortunate to have insight, knowledge and experience working for and with so many excellent trainers, decoys/agitators, club members, judges and competitors with diverse expertise / skills. My hobby turned obsession is learning about and enjoying all things dogs. Whether competitor, protector, best friend or foot warmer, dogs are my source of unconditional love, fierce loyalty, eternal companionship and joy. Although Rover said to “brag" about my qualities to differentiate myself from the rest of the pack, reality is you don’t care about trophies, titles or decades of dog experience as much as how well YOUR dog will be cared for in your absence and under any circumstances and the answer is with the same level of care and attention as I provide for my own dogs if not more. This time I may be caring for your pet, but I also find myself on the other side of the table and know how it feels to hopefully make the right decision choosing someone to care for my best friend when I'm unable. * There is also a "resident" vet tech on site with decades of experience and we genuinely complement each other's skill set and in reality, the years of experience on this profile should be more than doubled.

Craig is the best guy for the job! After meeting with our Bella, we instantly felt comfortable leaving her in Craig’s very knowledgeable hands! The daily pictures and updates gave us such peace of mind and let us truly enjoy our vacation! Bella was happy to see us, but also sad to leave Craig 🥹 I think she is a very satisfied customer…she gives 5 paws 🐾 We couldn’t have gone on our trip if it wasn’t for Craig and we are already looking forward to our next adventure!

Craig was the perfect person to leave my puppy with. Puppies are not the easiest but Craig has so much knowledge and training that I felt completely comfortable leaving her with him and he has given me so many helpful advice. I highly recommend Craig!

Rui enjoyed his stay with Craig! He was very accommodating and even treated Rui to special meals when he wouldn’t eat his food. Thankful he was in a safe and happy space while I was away.

Craig was great with our chocolate lab. He has so much experience with dogs and we felt very secure that our pup was in great hands.

Information Craig S. would like to know about your pet

* Awareness of any aggression to any animals, food, toys or people * Are they current on vaccinations (Rabies etc.) and flea/tick control with verification if requested and your vet's info available? * Awareness of any behavioral "challenges" (destructiveness, inappropriate chewing, anxiety, excessive barking, marking indoors, fear of thunder/fireworks/vacuums, “acting out” nipping, “counter surfing”, not coming when called, escape artist etc). * Awareness of special and or health needs (hip dysplasia, separation anxiety, required medication administration, chronic medical conditions, special diet, allergies, in "heat", UTI’s etc.) * Any guarding / possessiveness in the crate, with food, toys etc? * Does your dog have basic training (“No, “Come”,“Stay” etc)? * What commands do you use with your dog and how do you reward good behavior and / or correct bad behavior? * Are they 100% housebroken? (Just awareness) * Are they crate trained? Do they see crates as their “den” of safety / privacy & home or as punishment in doggie jail? **“Dangerous / Vicious Breeds” in my eyes is discrimination and discrimination in any form is wrong. I do not support BSL (breed specific legislation/laws). Rottweilers, Pitbulls, and German Shepherds are among a growing list of banned and or dangerous breeds.... In life, there is perception vs reality, and my reality is there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. As a good owner, your breed of choice will never be discriminated by me and simply evaluated just like any other dog that I would be caring for. ** As a dog trainer, I prefer to learn in advance a little about your prized possessions “manners” and “listening skills” i.e., do they come when called, bolt outdoors etc. If you need to hang on tight because your dog takes YOU for a walk or need to cross the street if another dog is nearby, if you reluctantly tolerate or become frustrated / embarrassed or angry by consistent undesirable behaviors at home, if your pup doesn’t come when called, it’s quite likely it'll be the same with your chosen pet care worker and perhaps the more seasoned may have the knowledge and experience to appropriately deal with an unpredictable situation better than those with less experience. Although I'm capable to handle such circumstances, advance awareness of known naughtiness is appreciated. If these or other scenarios sound familiar and you'd like a no obligation evaluation to assess training needs, obedience or behavioral issues, please don’t hesitate to ask! Admittedly, I’ve been successfully training dogs professionally and as a hobby and can provide individually tailored solutions to suit you and your dog's specific needs. I will also focus on "training the owner" to help you read / understand and handle your dog appropriately and consistently for a mutually rewarding relationship between both dog and owner. “A trained dog is always a welcomed dog!” (Author unknown)

A typical day

"Activities" are tailored to you/dog's individual preferences as one size does not fit all. ** ONE SINGLE FAMILY with more than one dog being no different My goal is to provide individual “one on one” attention without additional stress / anxiety / distractions to your pet and not booking as many dogs as I can. Countless owners have pets that do not thrive with other dogs/animals and whether from a traumatic past experience or preferring to avoid one, just ONE dog or ONE FAMILY's dogs at a time are all I will host for. Quality over quantity. * Meet & Greets are recommended, preferred and mutually beneficial however exceptions have been made in the past. ** Dogs may or may not be well socialized and some owners may or may not even be aware of their pup's previous experiences/history until they leave the pup with a caretaker for the first time. Indoors and outdoors, I will reduce or remove interaction with my pup if required for a worry free experience. Safety first so please don’t hesitate to inquire/discuss. * One night is considered 24 hours. Please pick up your pup within 24 hours of drop off. Daycare charges will be applied after 90 minutes past the arranged pick-up time. Boarding beyond scheduled pick up dates (extending the holiday vacation / missed flights etc) may cause overlap with other’s scheduled pet care commitments and subject to additional daily fee per posted Rover pricing. Although rare or unlikely, the intent is to provide professional courtesy to the next scheduled family and harmony in our household. Please keep me current of day/time when you will be dropping off/picking up your pets as there is no such thing as over communication when dealing with precious possessions!
